History

This WebSite was started in 1995 to supply information to Scouts that were planning to attend CJ'97 in Thunder Bay. Many of the pages developed for that occassion remain on the Site to provide information to Scouts visiting our Region. Pages on Weather, Standing Camp Group equipment, what to bring canoeing and hiking, are a few that are still relevant.

In 2002, the Northwestern Ontario Region was amalgimated with the Great Northern (Northeastern Ontario) Region, to become the Northern Ontario Council, covering the area between the Manitoba Border and the Quebec Border.

Administration for the Northern Ontario Council was shifted to Winnipeg in early 2004. The aligning of Northern Ontario with Manitoba is traditional, and is generally viewed as a return to our roots that were severed in the early 1970's, when Northwestern Ontario administration was shifted from Winnipeg to Toronto.

By the Fall of 2004 it became apparent that the territory that the Council was trying to service with information was far too large, and it was decided to confine this website's coverage to items of interest to members in Northwestern Ontario and the Thunder Bay Area in an attempt to improve communications within the radius of one day's driving time of Thunder Bay. The formal change was made in early 2005.

The WebSite is under constant "Construction" or renovations. It has suffered ten major re-writes, as well as numerous minor adjustments and added sections.
