- Volunteer Development for
Section Leaders
-
The National Volunteer Services Committee
identified learning objectives for the Selection Interview and
Orientation.
Once the interview and reference checks are complete, and the new
leader has initiated a police records check, the new leader
begins a three month Orientation and Probation Period. The
information new leaders need to receive during this period is
summarized in the Orientation Objectives for each specific
section.
Woodbadge Part I now provides recognition for demonstrating the
skills and knowledge leaders need to plan and deliver weekly
programs and overnight camps.
Woodbadge Part II recognizes further development in Program
Planning, Delivery, Outdoor Skills, Leadership and Section
Management.

ONTARIO ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT MODULES
(Training Opportunities)
- MODULE COMPARISON
- People often want to know how the development modules compare
with past training courses. The comparison is not direct since
duplication from past courses has been eliminated and the focus
of assessment has shifted from being knowledge based to skill
based. In a general fashion, Modules 1 and 4 will cover the
material presented on the previous Methods and Assessing Needs
Course. In a similar fashion, Modules 1 and 3 will cover the
material previously presented on the National Leadership Skills
Course. Further, the Modules 2, 5 and 7 will coincide with the
material that was presented on the Management Practices and
Procedures Course.
It is expected that the modular development format will help
to reduce needless duplication, help reduce the time commitment,
help to manage the escalating expenses, and yet ensure quality
development which has a precise focus upon emphasizing
demonstrated skill and proficiency. If you are uncertain about
whether you require particular development, then complete, with
your coach, the seven skill development areas defined on the
Service Scouter Skills Chart. After undertaking this assessment
it should be clear if you need to take any particular module for
development.
