The group of adults and students who met that evening are interested in inter-denominational Christian work among highschool students and most of us have had involvement with Inter-Varsity's work in Thunder Bay high schools. We are asking God to renew that work in Thunder Bay high schools and to call a staffworker for that purpose.

In the meantime, we plan to have another Gathering, probably during the 2007 Turnaround Days. Bethany of PACI is going to plan a game of Mafia to be part of the evening (very popular among her camp staff friends).

If enough students become interested, we may see if a Boot/Street/Road Hockey tournament could follow a month or so after that.

Music

Thunder Bay Song Writers Contest
Jack's Bar
Nov. 1

I sang "Nobody Talks" which might have been a poor choice. Perhaps novelty songs rest too much on the audience's and judges' point of view on the content itself, rather than on the song-craftmanship. They either love it or hate it. And realistically the judges were probably thinking it wasn't worth awarding recording time to a song that has likely peaked already in potential popular appeal.

Extra verse I included that night:

Tie Domi still played when I wrote this song.
Don Cherry loved him, though he said his name wrong.
Tie used to play in the Town of the Hogs,
But now his career's over and he's gone to the dogs.

In any case, six of the evening's nine contestants were chosen to go on to the next round. I wasn't chosen. Maybe next year.

Actually, I approve of their choice of the overall winner, Caleb Hawkins. I had watched one of his videos at Kevin and Shannon Kuchta's place and was impressed by his singing and songwriting. Kev and Shan have a video on their blog of Caleb's winning song: Draw Your Guns. Notice that Caleb doesn't wreck his good guitar. He's not rich and famous yet.
