Manitoba Pioneer Camp
Classic Boys One
Aug. 2 - 14

Index of all my Boys Camps at MPC

This year my role was "Peps, the Director of Pep". ("Peps" is my rather lame camp name at MPC.) My main duties were to lead music in the Intermediate Section Bible sessions and evening Songs & Stories, assist with the Inter. section Bible teaching, and during afternoon swim to man the Buddy Checker Desk (where I introduced the use of Pi as one of the buddy numbers).

The rest of the time I just made myself as useful as I could. In practice this resulted in my being something of an ass't Inter. Section Head. I also faithfully attended Canoeing Class and achieved my "Advanced Junior" (semi-)level.

The first week of the session I was on vacation from my church job, meaning that I didn't check my church email. The second week I worked for church from camp (checked my email & planned a Sunday message). I am grateful to both MPC and NPCoC for permitting this arrangement (combining two light workloads), which I think resulted in a very refreshing and productive time at MPC.

Again I spent my night off at the Baileys' in Kenora, as well as the Friday at the end of camp, as they had asked me to drive their son to his grandparents' in Thunder Bay. Poor Liam, I don't know if he's ever been in a vehicle sans A/C before! He didn't complain to me, but he did comment to his grandparents that I should get it fixed.

Canoe Trip
Aug. 23 - 26

Camp Gitchigomee had planned to run a canoe trip during this week, but (among other reasons) we had trouble finding a staff member with Wilderness First Aid, so we had to cancel. (I discovered too late that I had been singing for two months with someone thus qualified who would have been an excellent staff member!)

Dave and Larry had booked the time off anyway, and so Larry's wife, Patricia, daughter Megan with her "hubble" Josh, and I (plus Dollar the one-eyed dog) joined them for a very enjoyable paddle in the Northern Light Lake system.
