RICHARD PEPPER'S NEVER-TO-BE TITLED PRAYER LETTER
WITH DORION BIBLE CAMP , CSSM MINISTRIES

Christmas 2000 Number 23

I delayed sending out a letter sooner, because, as Summer 2000 drew to a close, I was already beginning to plan a November holiday in England and I thought I would wait until after that to report on both the summer and my trip.
Summer 2000 was Keith Adams' first as Manager of Operations. I greatly appreciated the good communication he and I had, which enabled us to keep staff recruitment (his job) and camper registration (mine) on par. He also did a fine job in leading the staff by example in such matters as hackeysack and Kangaroo Court (among other things!) Kelly Adams, in addition to caring for Brandon, Amy and Ethan, was an inspiration to the young ladies living in their basement, by praying/talking with them and tucking them in at night.

I am particularly grateful for the efforts of Jamie Vieira who led all-camp games (in addition to his cabin duties) and David McGratten who helped me in the office, "circling and alphabetizing" (in addition to his waterfront duties).

Basic Stats: 584 campers; 7 weeks of overnight camp; 1 week day camp; 1 week & Labour Day Weekend Family Camps; 72 recorded professions of new faith in Christ.

DBCCC Welcomes the Hambly Fambly

On August 29th Stephen Hambly began his work as Site Manager for Dorion Bible Camp and Conference Centre. Stephen and his wife, Melanie, will be full-time Dorion staff and therefore members of CSSM Ministries. Formerly, they and their children, Ben, Lia, Rachel and Hannah, lived in Elmvale, Ontario (near Barrie), where Stephen worked in O.P.P. Communications.

Alain and Bonnie Pleau moved on to ministry with Ontario Pioneer Camp early this year. The Hamblys were unable to join us until the Autumn. We very much appreciated Don Shaver, who volunteered to head up the Maintenance Team for the Summer, assisted by his right-hand man, Karl "Clutch" Wilson. The office and bookstore/ tuckshop also greatly benefited from the presence of Marilyn Shaver, who remarkably volunteered at the same time as her husband.

I have been appointed "Web Author" for the DBCCC website. I am happy to do this!! For more information (and pictures!) of Summer 2000 (& more), go to www.cssm.ca/dorion [pix removed by my successor] and follow the menu to whatever interests you.
England (Description & pictures)

Thank you to Gordon and Nora Ellis who made me aware of a good off-peak deal on the Net and to Andy James who spurred me on to book the trip.

Between Nov. 23rd and 30th I was on holiday in London, UK (and East Sussex briefly). This was not an organized tour and so I had to invent my own itinerary. However, the package included an all-zones, 7 day Travelcard which enabled me to hop on and off buses and underground trains at will.

Highlights: Riding a double-decker bus to the Portobello Road Market; seeing pheasants & sheep as I rode the train to Sussex; crossing Abbey Road (barefoot) (twice); wandering Theatreland at night; prayer time in Westminster Abbey; awaiting the arrival of some dignitary at Buckingham Palace; feeling at home in my Leafs jersey at Canada House.

Minor Setbacks: Thinking I'd lost my Travelcard (I hadn't); thinking I'd ruined an entire roll of film (I hadn't); thinking I'd been shortchanged 5 pounds at Westminster Abbey (I wasn't)!

My winter activities include helping with ISCF, especially at Hammarskjold, musical ministry (recent coffeehouse report), record-keeping & planning associated with my roles as Programme Director & Registrar and "Web-Authoring" (as mentioned above).

Thank you for your prayers and interest.

Happy Christmas!

Richard
