MOVING FORWARD
...Neebing and The City of Thunder Bay

Much Work Done & More To Do

  • Broadway Ave between Hwy 61 EXPRESSWAY and NEEBING AVE:

    • When former MP Joe Comuzzi asked City Council if there was a roads project that needed special funding, Linda recommended the re-routing of Broadway to go around the mill which had developed on both sides of Broadway, had an overhead structure, and road safety issues.
    • Federal funding was provided
    • Broadway Ave. from Hwy 61 to Neebing Ave. has been well used since the CN bridge fire in 2013, and during the 2018 MTO renovations on Hwy 61
    • Fortunately, that section of Broadway has been available!
  • Roads:

    • Neebing Ward is #1 compared to other wards in the city.
    • future paving will concentrate on residential roads
    • concern with maintenance of Arthur Street, from the 25th Side Road to HWY 61 Expressway if forestry trucks continue to drive on it
  • MTO Highway Changes

    • HWY 61 from Arthur Street to HWY 11/17/Harbour Expressway corner has been re-classified as a STAGED FREEWAY for Highway Access Management. MTO has refused access to Parkdale Subdivision from Hwy 61, but has allowed Emergency Access to Hwy 11/17 near the Hwy junction.
    • Structural upgrades for the HWY 61 underpasses and overpasses between the airport and Broadway are being done by the MTO.
  • Park Development Plans

    • Public viewing of the North Neebing Park draft plan was held on Oct. 4th at the Holy Family School gym, Rosslyn Road.
    • The Parkdale Public Consult on Wed. Sept. 19th at the park, was well attended by residents. Park staff will use the public input to make a draft plan for Park development. Further consultation will then happen.
  • Environmental Concerns:

    • Proactive measures are needed to prepare for extreme weather changes - ice, snow, rain, wind, and temperatures. There have been improvements regarding water drainage, but more needs to be done - especially on clay soils.
    • Lakehead Conservation Authority is doing an Erosion study on the Kam River and Floodplane Mapping for Mosquito Creek, Kam Rvier, Neebing River, and Pennock Creek.
  • Hwy 61 and Chippewa Road Intersection:

The MTO and OPP have taken some actions for traffic safety, but drivers must continue to be cautious. The CN's James St. Bridge should open to vehicles, per direction of the Ontario Court of Appeal.

  • New Fire Halls on Neebing Ave. & the 20th Side Road; EMS Station on Brown St:

    • Faster Emergency Response Times for Neebing Ward!
  • Economy in Transition:

    • The more diversified economy is good
    • Bombardier contracts are important
    • Mining looks hopeful
    • Property values are increasing
