Welcome to Canadian Clay Arts dot Ca, opened on March 21, 2011 and dedicated to Monika Hohnen and all the Crafts people in Thunder Bay Ontario and especially the Thunder Country Ceramic Group.
As mentioned in other places this is not a commercially oriented site. It is an Art site dedicated to the Slip-Cast and Hand-Built Crafts in Clay and features much original material. We have, however, the remains of several businesses and seem to add to the mold stock constantly, though we cannot sell molds, we can sell castings from them as we have done for many years.
For those living in the Thunder Bay area we have a local Variety Store that carries a small selection of Seasonal Ceramic and other Art that can be picked up there or we will deliver if arrangements are made by calling in or visiting us.
Ordering
Almost everything you see in the way of ceramics either on Grampa’s or Moni’s pages can be purchased as ’Special order’ since there is little listed as stock. All pieces are either Commercial ceramics from Moni’s or Original pieces from Grampa’s and will require at least two weeks for casting, cleaning and firing for bisque orders. Glazed or Stained articles will take longer.
Delivery
All arrangements should be made by phone or email and a deposit will be required for ’out of town’ orders or for new local customers. Call and discuss.
Delivery Charges
Delivery charges will apply to ’out of town’ orders and may apply to local customers as well but generally we deliver on Wednesdays and Fridays free of charge within city limits. There is no way to estimate the cost of ’out of town’ or ’overseas’ delivery because it changes constantly due to fuel costs but we will use the most economical method as arranged with the order.
Bisque and Finished work
Locally Greenware is available for both the original and commercial pieces but only bisque or finished work can be sent by mail due to the delicate nature of greenware. (Greenware is unfired slip cast earthenware and Bisque is cleaned greenware and fired to a pure white, ready for glaze or stain.)
