Solo Music Projects

Rusty has been composing music since 1980 and over the years recorded dozens of music demos. These music CD's have only been released in limited editions. Rusty plays all the instruments and sings vocals on all of the tracks.

The CD cycloid, completed in 2002, refers to a curved line that is created by the path of a point on the edge of a rolling wheel. Rusty extended this idea to refer to everyone on earth. "We all create a kind of cycloid line through space as this planet rolls along its orbit." The CD cycloid includes 8 music tracks.

Fallen Angel
This song is based on the children’s story by Gabriel Garcia Marquez called "A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings."

In 2004 Rusty began recording the CD XLR8 with the intention that it would be included in a solo art exhibition. The original concept was to record sounds in a variety of environments and landscapes throughout Thunder Bay. Short of funding, the final CD only included three small simulated soundscapes interspersed between 4 song tracks. Most of the music is based on accelerando structure with tempos that accelerate in speed.

Introcelerate
This track is an early attempt using accelerando structure - increasing in speed and energy throughout the song. Its a kind of rebel punk song about communication media "...maybe something Noam Chomsky would sing if he was a punk rocker."

Lately Rusty has been experimenting with reversed recording tracks, adding overdubbed instruments and vocal tracks to "discover" new melodies and lyrics within the reversed recordings. A CD of these new tracks is slated for completion in the summer of 2008.
