Fees and Waiving Them
Bonnie Ferrante is a professional member of CANSCAIP (Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators, and Performers) and CCBC (The Canadian Children's Book Center)
CANSCAIP suggests the following scale:
Schools and libraries: $250 for one (up to 60 minute) session. This amount is based on the Canada Council for the Arts’ recommended rate for presentations by authors and other creators.
Conferences and workshops: In
the range of $300 to $1000. Because these presentations are written specifically
to address a conference theme or workshop topic, they require a great deal of
preparation time, and therefore a larger fee.
For all of the above, GST/HST and travel expenses are over and above the presentation fee.
HOWEVER-
Bonnie is willing to waive the reading fees for schools and libraries under the following circumstances.
First visit: The librarian purchases several of Bonnie's books for the school. Teachers are given copies of the order forms and asked to consider buying books as well.
Second and subsequent visits: Students who have and will be participating are given a letter and order form to take home. The teacher collects the money and order forms. The teacher can either order directly from Amazon and show the author the receipt or give the orders to Bonnie. It will then take approximately 3 weeks for the orders to arrive.
Each visit is approximately 30-45 minutes with one class or a maximum of 35 students.
Conference and workshop fees made be negotiated under certain circumstances.
