Mushroom Cup

What is it?

The Mushroom Cup Tournament is a video hockey tournament played on Sega Genesis using EA Sports NHL'95 through to NHL'98. This tournament used to be played anywhere from three to five times a year with each tournament ranging anywhere from four to fifteen players. Nowadays, it is played on NHL'98 with some modifications and is an annual event played in the fall, but not on Grey Cup day.

The Mushroom Cup began its journey on December 12, 1994 in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It involved six teams, and was played on EA Sports' NHL'95. The six brave souls who started all this were Dean Barker, Neil Dainio, Darren Foulds, Mike Hurlbert, Richard Pepper, and Victor Wong. Little did they know what they had started.
The 27th edition of this tournament took place on December 3, 2005.

General Manager Profile : Robin Harbron

Considered by many to be the #1 seed going into any tournament nowadays, that wasn't the case early on in Harbron's career. In his first five tournaments, Harbron was a combined 12-27-3. However, Harbron was 35-3-0 in his last five tourneys. Developing a style all his own, he has become a dominant force, striking fear in opposing GMs.
