Canadiens Have Prime Meal
The 1976/77 Montreal Canadiens (GM Stan Milne) went undefeated during the regular season, surviving a thrilling 5-4 OT win over the 1983/84 Edmonton Oilers. The Habs were led by Jacques Lemaire's nine goals, and defenseman Guy Lapointe's nine points.
GM Kevin Kuchta was a last second replacement as illness forced Blaze Brown to miss the tourney. Kuchta responded by leading the Leafs to a 2-3-1 record. Lanny McDonald led the team with three goals as goals were hard to come by in this division.
Rookie GM Paul Ernsting's introduction to the TOL was a learning experience, but his team (1983/84 Edmonton Oilers) was involved with both overtime games. One was the 5-4 loss to the powerful Milne's Canadiens, while the other was a classic 1-1 draw with Kuchta's Leafs. Wayne Gretzky led the team in scoring, followed closely by Jari Kurri. 43/44 Maple Leafs Burger Kings
The 1943/44 Toronto Maple Leafs coasted to a 6-0 record in the Hamburger Deluxe division, led by the line of Jack Hamilton, Gus Bodnar and Lorne Carr. Carr did considerable damage as he finished in a three-way tie for the goals lead with Brad Park and Jean Ratelle of the 1971/72 New York Rangers. All three finished with 12 goals by regular season's end.
Rookie GM Jamie Wheatley of the 1992/93 Pittsburgh Penguins did a commendable job, finishing at 3-3. Mario Lemieux and Kevin Stevens led the Penguins with four goals and four assists each. Goaltender Tom Barrasso finished with three shutouts along with three other goalies for the shutout lead. Sources say GM Wheatley could be one to watch out for in the near future as he picks up more valuable game experience.
Fellow rookie GM Greg Hill had a rougher start to his Sega Genesis career as he endured a winless season. His 1970/71 Boston Bruins had a difficult time adjusting to GM Hill's patient methodical style. As one player wondered aloud, "It felt like we were being coached by a computer programmer/analyst!". However, Hill's team did give the Leafs an early scare, forcing Toronto into overtime in their first games.

Rhubarbearians Enjoy Breakfast
The 1996 Rhubarbearians ruled the Bacon & Eggs division as they went undefeated during the regular season. Led by the line of Mike Hurlbert, Malcolm MacMillan, and Wayne Nickolai, GM Dean Barker's team outplayed their division foes. All three forwards finished the regular season with identical six goals and three assists.
Meanwhile, GM Darren Foulds' first venture into TOL country was with the 2004/05 Brampton Thunder. Led by Jayna Hefford and Vicky Sunohara, the Thunder squeaked into second place via a tiebreaker with the 1958/59 Montreal Canadiens. Because of the limited cartridge size, two injury replacement players ( Dino Ciccarelli and Rick Tabaracci ) received ice time. Foulds' team got stronger as the season progressed.
GM Paul Muzzin's Canadiens had some shaky moments as goaltender Jacques Plante was adjusting to playing against non-NHL players. As Muzzin pointed out during one of those moments, "He [Plante] isn't wearing a mask. He just painted his face." The 58/59 Canadiens were led by Bernie (Boom Boom) Geoffrion's two goals.

Brown Out, Kuchta In
In a recent development prior to the start of divisional play, GM Blaze Brown was not able to participate. GM Kevin Kuchta stepped in and took over the reigns for the 1977 / 78 Toronto Maple Leafs.
