The General Managers have settled on their teams, and this is how it happened ( in order from picking first to having the last pick ) :
1. Paul Ernsting -- 1983 / 84 Edmonton Oilers There will be four divisions with two divisions occurring at the same time in the evening. They are the Bacon & Eggs Division ( 9:00 AM start ); the Hamburger Deluxe Division ( 2:00 PM start ); the Prime Rib Division ( 7:00 PM start ); and the Filet Mignon Division ( 7:00 PM start ).
The Bacon & Eggs Division consists of:
The Hamburger Deluxe Division consists of:
The Prime Rib Division consists of:
The Filet Mignon Division consists of:
Divisional play only for the regular season. Each team to play six games. At the end of the regular season, the second place team faces the first place team in a one-game playoff showdown. The four divisional champs will play the next round. Ranked accordingly to their regular season record, the 4th place team plays the 1st place team, while the 3rd place team plays the 2nd place team. Both are best-of-seven game series.
As the tourney approaches in a couple of days, information is finally reaching head office and as of Thursday morning, this is known thus far : Paul Ernsting, with the first choice of teams overall, becomes GM of the 1983 / 84 Edmonton Oilers. Next was Jamie Wheatley, who becomes GM of the 1992 / 93 Pittsburgh Penguins. Paul Muzzin, with third pick, becomes GM of the 1958 / 59 Montreal Canadiens. Mike Hurlbert, picking next, becomes GM of the 1965 / 66 Montreal Canadiens. The rest won't be determined until the Commish hears from a GM who may be bringing in a second GM.
As for time slots, again, once the GM reports in the Commish will know where the GMs all line up. However, this much is known.
The 9:00 AM time slot has been named the Bacon & Eggs Division, while the 2:00 slot will be named the Hamburger Deluxe Division. Meanwhile, the 7:00 PM slot becomes the Prime Rib Division. (Mar. 13, 2008)
A new team will be added for next year's TOL3. The Difference Makers becomes the 36th team available for the tourney and is made up of the popular created players in Mushroom Cup history. In keeping with certain guidelines and having different GMs represented, here is the line-up with GMs in brackets :
G -- Captain Kangaroo (Darren Foulds)
The ratings and other stats will be revealed at a later date. There may even be openings for another team of such nature at some future point in time.
Eamon Wilson, who was expected to make his TOL debut, had to drop out regretfully due to his overloaded schedule, which included a lot of baby-sitting and homework. In other news, both Mike Shaw and Jon Tornblom were scratches as well, related to work duties. This brings the number to 11 GMs participating. (Mar. 13, 2008)
The Jeff/Noah Mcneill team has had to withdraw from the tournament due to a change in Jeff's work schedule. Number of GMs now stand at 12. (Mar. 3, 2008)
After weekend negotiations, Mike ( Line-Edit Master ) Hurlbert has come on board and has thrown his hat into the mix. How long it stays in the mix depends on his variable work schedule, which currently looks favourable. As well, Eamon Wilson has thrown his cap into the mix. How long it stays in the mix depends on his intensive study schedule, which possibly looks something like "... study, study, study, feed son, kiss wife, study, study, study, kiss son, feed wife ..." Incidently, Wilson is the brother-in-law of the most recent finalist in TOL, Scot Morrison. As reported in an article back on April 27, 2005, the Championship Series had to be moved due to Scot's sister getting married. The article is found halfway down the page and the story at the end of the article. (Mar. 2, 2008)
After conferring with GM Barker Thursday late morning, TOL2 is set for Saturday, March 15. GMs will be contacted to find out which time slot works for them. There are three slots to choose from. They are : 9:00 AM 2:00 PM 7:00 PM Once this information is obtained, divisions will be made up and the GMs notified. The date and times could not be confirmed until this morning. Barker got back into town late Wednesday evening. Furthermore, if the GMs could start letting the Commish know what your top 5 or 6 choices of teams are, that would be greatly appreciated. You can email or phone them in. (Feb. 28, 2008)
As more input is being received, it looks more and more like TOL2 will take place on Saturday, March 15. GM Barker will be back in Thunder Bay from Mar. 13 - 18, so his more spacious place is available then. With two locations, it is possible to have the regular season games played in one day. With this in mind, time slots for Saturday would be Morning ( 9:00 AM start ), Afternoon ( 2:00 PM start ), and Evening ( 7:00 PM start ). If GMs can decide which time slots work for them, it would be appreciated. Also, please let the Commish know if it doesn't matter which time slot, or if another day would be better. (Feb. 25, 2008)
The father-son combo of Jeff Mcneill and son Noah returns for their second time on the Tournament of Legends scene. This now brings the total to eleven teams for TOL2. (Feb. 25, 2008)
GMs interested in trying out the system before the tournament can do so by setting up an appointment with GM Wong. (Feb. 21, 2008)
Wednesday evening saw more GMs entering the Tournament of Legends 2 (TOL2) as five more were added. Rookie GMs Jamie Wheatley, Andrew Bickmore, and Paul Ernsting are the newcomers to this brand of hockey while Paul Muzzin returns for his second stint in the TOL. Veteran Stan Milne returns and hopes to rebound from his unexpected early departure from the playoffs last time around. (Feb. 20, 2008)
In addition to the East Walsh Stadium, there will also be the Lower Heath Arena ( working unofficial title ), home of GM Dean Barker. Barker's Arena will be the main site when he's in town. For games when the Lower Heath Arena is not available, the East Walsh Stadium will be used. (Feb. 20, 2008)
You can now add the name of Robin Harbron to the list of participating GMs in TOL2. With Wong, Barker, Foulds, and Hill in the mix, Harbron becomes the fifth GM. This will be Harbron's first foray into the Tournament of Legends scene and will be doing it without the services of super rabbit Lapinski Iwachewski. (Feb. 20, 2008)
The Commish of the TOL would like to remind confirmed GMs that the head office needs the top 5 or 6 team choices of each GM soon. The choices can be found on the TOL main page. As well, from March 1 - 22, can the GMs let the Commish know which days would work, and whether it's morning, afternoon, or evening. This is to figure out which divisions to be in. Thank you for your help. (Feb. 19, 2008)
After a three-year absence, the Tournament of Legends returns as play resumes in March 2008. While more GMs are waiting in the wings, four have been confirmed so far. They are defending champion Victor Wong, his playoff nemesis Dean Barker, Mushroom Cup veteran Darren Foulds, and raw rookie Greg Hill. League organizers are looking towards a time frame of between March 1 - 22. (Feb. 19, 2008)
