When is an adult member covered by insurance?
Scouts Canada's Insurer now only insures adults that have completed the first five steps of the Screening Process:
For all new members
- 1. "Application for Membership and Appointment of Adults" signed by the applicant.
- 2. Completed a successful Scouts Canada Screening Interview.
- 3. References check (3) completed.
- 4. Clean PRC has been received.
- 5. The Council Executive Director has verified the process has been followed and is complete.
Note: The probationary period is no longer applicable.
The process is only complete/confirmed when the application is signed by the CED and entered in the Membership Management System, (forms in the NOC office).
For current members "returning to the same position"
Only steps 1 & 5 are required including the Group/Commissioner approval.
Step 4 applies if their clean PRC is more than 3 years old.
Screening Process for Current Members Changing Roles
Changing sections/roles within the group/area/council:
- No formal references required. Key leader or group chair may make informal inquiries if they feel this is warranted.
- No probation
- Personal Development Plan including Orientation as required.
Changing groups within the council/area:
- 2 formal references, one group committee or Commissioner/Service Team Member responsible for the previous group/section and one leader in the previous section or equivalents for other roles.
- No probation
- Personal Development Plan including Orientation as required.
Transferring to another council:
- 2 formal references, one group committee or Commissioner/Service Team Member responsible for the previous group/section and one leader in the previous section or equivalents for other roles.
- Continue personal development
- The Volunteer Screening Policy requires PRCs normally to be renewed every three years, however, when a volunteer changes council, a PRC may be requested earlier at the discretion of the council.
Completing the Adult Application and Screening Process will ensure we have the right people serving our Youth with purpose of providing them with a safe environment to enjoy the Scouting Program.
If there is a problem getting PRCs in a timely manner for a critical "new team member" please contact the
CED directly, providing the name and phone number of the Police Services person responsible for PRCs, and we will try and work it out.
Refer to Appendix K of the
Camping/Outdoor Activity Guide with regards to Screening for Parents, Resource persons and Helpers.
Each completed Adult form must be signed by the Group or Commissioner, and be submitted immediately to the Council office:
