Standing Camp Equipment Checklist

Labels

Packs:
All backpacks, Duffel bags and Equipment boxes, including loose equipment must carry a label attached to the outside (or be printed in non-removable ink), and another label inside which will show:
  • Your Name
  • Troop Name (i.e.: 1st Neebing )
  • Area Name
  • City: (i.e. Thunder Bay, Ontario )
  • CJ Unit number

Personal equipment and clothing:
Must contain your Last Name, Troop Name, City, CJ Unit number.
Laundry markers will not wash out, and iron on labels with the Troop information would be easy to read. Try and guess the number of people with the same First name and Initial as yours, that will be attending the camp. Now try and guess the number of Leaders called "Scouter Bill". I think you get the drift of the problems of Lost and Found!

Transport Canada Restrictions

Transportation of Dangerous Goods

By Bus
Fuel: Propane, Butane, Naphtha, Gasoline, Camp Fuel etc. are not allowed on Common Carriers. Check with Transport Canada and your Bus Company for a complete list of forbidden commodities.

By Air
Fuel: Propane, Butane, Naphtha, Gasoline, Camp Fuel etc. are not allowed on Aircraft. In addition, Aerosol cans of deodorant, hair spray etc., matches, fireworks, knives, firearms, radios, tape players, "gameboys" are also forbidden in checked as well as carry on luggage. Transport Canada will be pleased to go over your equipment and personal list for items not allowed to be carried on Aircraft. Your Travel Agent can also supply a list of these items.

Airport Security

For some reason Airport Security Personal either do not have a sense of humor, or have a devious method to relieve the stress of their job. Do NOT JOKE about having dangerous goods in your luggage or on your person. It will result in your luggage being transferred to the end of the runway and being blown up with an explosive and/or a personal search of you and your clothing. Ether way you end up in a detention center while the rest of the Troop goes to Camp. Or maybe nobody gets to go...

Don't be left at the Terminal because of something you packed to bring to Camp!

    (evenings/cool weather)

  • Nylon jacket or wind parka

Sleeping

  • Sleepwear (PJ's or Jogging Suit)
  • Sleeping Bag
    Minimum temperature rating of
    • - 1 °C - summer
    • - 7 °C - spring/fall
    • -20 °C - Winter
  • Extra Blanket(s)
  • Sleeping Pad
  • Groundsheet

Sun & Insect protection

  • Sun hat (to protect head and face)
  • Sun glasses
  • Sun screen (SP 15 or better)
  • Protection for chapped lips
  • Insect repellent (non-aerosol.)
    DEET will dissolve Nylon,
    (pack in a plastic Zip-Lock Bag .)
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Canteen or water bottle

Toilet Kit

  • Towel
  • Soap in container
  • Shampoo
  • Comb
  • Toothbrush and paste
  • Deodorant (non-aerosol)
  • Personal Hygiene Products
  • Mending kit
    (needles, thread, safety pins)

Mess Kit

  • Net Bag for drying and storing dishes
  • Unbreakable cup, bowl and plate
  • Knife, fork and spoon

Personal Supplies

  • Notebook and pencil
  • Badge swapping materials
  • Camera and film
  • Roll of adhesive tape
  • Flashlight
  • Pocket knife only
  • Water Bottle
  • Compass
  • Whistle (optional)

Valuables

There is NO safekeeping facility in camp for valuables. You should ensure that your personal equipment is covered by your home ownership insurance policy. Keep your valuables to a minimum, and carry spending money in Traveler's Cheques of different (small) denominations, or use a debit card. Understand and follow the instructions when purchasing and spending Traveler's Cheques. Ask about the replacement policy of the Traveler's Cheques you plan to purchase. Be sure to bring two pieces of Photo ID with you to replace lost debit cards, or Traveler's Cheques.

  • Walkie Talkies
  • Radio or Ghetto blaster
  • Cellular Telephone
  • Garbage bags instead of duffel bags or packs. More gear has gone to the dump than a $10 duffel bag is worth!
    Glad makes a clear lawn & garden bag that is useful for "waterproofing" packs.

Folding chairs for leaders

  2. to keep them out of the kitchen while you prepare meals!
