Accredited with the Ontario Camps Association

Camp Gitchigomee is a Christian, not-for profit summer camp located at the east end of Sandstone Lake, about a 75 minute drive southwest of Thunder Bay. The camp offers: a) three, week-long (6 day) coed camps for children ages 7-9 (Junior), 10-12 (Intermediate), and 13-15 (Senior); b) a Retreat Weekend for “Teens +” ages 15-22; and c) a five day wilderness canoe trip (proposed for 2010). Activities at the camp include archery, bible studies, canoeing, campfire, land & water games, light duties, nature studies and swimming. The all-inclusive fees (~$200/ wk) includes daily tuck and return bus transportation to Kakabeka Falls and Thunder Bay.

Camp Gitchigomee was established in 1945 by the Thunder Bay Deanery Anglican churches, and became a not-for profit corporation in 2007. It continues to be administered, maintained and supported by volunteers and local Anglican parishes. For additional information regarding the camp philosophy, group rental rates, bursary availability, volunteering and support opportunities, please explore this website, leave a message at (807) 622-0020, or mail us at P.O. Box 29018, Thunder Bay, ON P7B 6P9.

Corporation Membership

With the recent incorporation of Camp Gitchigomee we have a new structure for decision-making. The corporation is made up of members; anyone supportive of the Camp's objectives may complete an application and submit a nominal $5 fee to become a member.

At the Annual General Meeting, members elect six Directors (the "Board"), who then make policy and operating decisions with help from various standing committees.

The Directors meet the third Tuesday of most months and members are welcome at these meetings to provide input for their decisions. (Contact us for location.)

Husky Reward Cards
This is the easiest of our Fund Raisers. All you have to do is ask us for a Husky Reward Card and swipe it every time you make a purchase of gas or food at the Husky Stations and they send us a cheque for 2% of your purchase (except on Lottery or Tobacco purchases). Contact us today and start swiping. Last year they sent us just over $500.00.

Canadian Tire Money
Each camp rep will accept Canadian Tire Money which we use to purchase much-needed sports equipment each year. It adds up quickly. Last year we bought $53.00 in new sports equipment.

Quality Market Tapes
We used to collect A. & P. receipts and turn them in for cash.
A big Thank You goes to Betty Gottfred who ran this program for eight years! During that time a total of $2,762.11 was raised for the camp!!

Thank you, Sandra Rejall, who has volunteered to run a similar program through Quality Market. All receipts must be dated April 1/2007 or later.
