This volunteer project began in April 2007 and was completed in June 2013. The objective was to index the death notices, obituaries and estate notices (notice to creditors) from the Fort William, Port Arthur and Thunder Bay newspapers for the time period 1900 - 1999. The In Memoriams were only compiled for the pre-1950 newspapers. The focus was on the death information as the notices can provide clues to more family information such as occupation, birth date, marriage date and living descendants. These indexes are valuable time-saving tools for genealogists and historians.

The Times-News (Thunder Bay, Ontario)(July 1972 - April 1996):
There are no plans to index this newspaper for a few reasons. There is not a consistent set of microfilms for the early years of the newspaper publicly available, and into the 1980s and 1990s many notices were duplicated in both city newspapers. That being said, we did find some funeral notices without finding a death notice first in The Chronicle-Journal, which might mean the death notice might have been published first in The Times-News. If you do find any references that were in the Times-News only, let me know.
