Stockwell Day on Gay:

The day after he was elected Leader of the opposition, Stockwell Day told the Globe and Mail:
"I define the family hetero-sexually".
Among the very first issues the Canadian Alliance dealt with in Parliament was Bill C23, the federal omnibus legislation to treat same sex relationships equally. Not a single Alliance MP supported this long awaited legislation.

As recently as March of this year, when Day was an Alberta MLA he engineered a bill which declares that marriage must be maintained in it's purity", and explicitly excludes same sex couples. His Bill invokes the constitutional "notwithstanding" clause, to prevent courts from even reviewing it's validity. This is the first time in Canadian history that the "notwithstanding" clause has been used to restrict the human rights of lesbians, gays and bisexuals - but it may not be the last.
