All Volunteer Job Descriptions

1.  Resource Centre Assistant:

  • Organize and maintain an accurate catalogue of the resource material.
  • Enter the data into the computer.
  • Contact ministries and agencies who provide free publications and have the Centre placed on their mailing lists.
  • Collect incoming information and devise a system which can be easily utilized within the library.
  • Reorganize and maintain the pamphlet rack by contacting agencies for updated pamphlets and materials.
  • Cross reference files.
  • Call for overdue books and materials.
  • Seek out resource donations from the membership and the community.
  • Assist with the signing out of resource materials
  • Filing resources.
2.  Newsletter Volunteer:
  • Meet with members of the Newsletter Committee once a month to determine the contents of the Newsletter.
  • Write articles, book reviews, calendar of events etc. to be published.
  • Type articles on the computer.
  • Edit articles.
  • Update the mailing list on a monthly basis.
  • Design the layout of the edition.
  • Print labels, label and stamp envelopes.
  • Stuff envelopes.
3.  Information and Referral Volunteer:
  • Greet women who visit the Centre, trying to make them feel as comfortable as possible.
  • Answer questions and requests by telephone and in person about local services available for women.
  • Complete log book for each call and visit.
  • Help to provide a safe, supportive atmosphere for women to access information, resources and support.
4.  Membership on the Board of Directors:
  • Attend monthly Board meetings.
  • Volunteer time to a sub committee.
  • Help to make decisions about the Centre.
  • Voice opinions and listen respectfully to the opinions of others.
5.  Fundraising Volunteer:
  • Organize fundraising events.
  • Work on funding proposals.
  • Ensure that the donation file is maintained.
  • To seek out "new" governmental and non-governmental sources of funding.
  • Create, develop, implement and evaluate new fundraising venues.
6.  Information Display Representative:
  • Organize information for the table - gather books, copy pamphlets, etc.
  • Set up and take down the information table.
  • Represent the Centre by distributing information and answering any questions that the public may have.
  • Develop community awareness of the Northwestern Ontario Women's Centre in the broader community.
7.  Political Action Volunteer:
  • Understand the feminist philosophy that guides our vision.
  • Keep current on women's issues to which the Centre might be asked to respond.
  • Lobby work (write letters, petitions, etc.) in response to various issues and concerns.
8.  Workshop Organization / Special Events Worker:
  • Assist in the conception, implementation and evaluation of information sessions / special events / meetings.
  • Set up, attend and clean up on the day of the activity.
  • Seek donations for special events.
  • Book the facility.
  • Publicize the event in the local media.
  • Solicit speakers, panelists, etc. and arranging for their needs.
  • Seek funding sources.
