March 3rd and 4th, 2007 SIMSAR
On March 3rd, 2007 a Simulated Search and Rescue Exercise (SIMSAR) took place in support of NOASARA's spotter training program. Two flights were conducted in a Piper Cherokee 140 owned and maintained by long-time unit member Jay Minor. The first air team consisted of Jason Hughes, Kieran Van Wagoner and Jim Geils. The second flight consisted of Jason Hughes, Richard Boon and Archie Donaldson. The mission of each flight was broken into two objectives. First, identify several people on the ground at an outdoor exercise. Second, identity a confined field that could be use for sartecks to parachute into. Both exercises were not easy. On March 4th, Jason Hughes, Jim Geils and Kieran Van Wagoner went on foot to review the fields selected the previous day by spotters for para jumps. Below are the pictures.
