SAR Actual November 21, 2004 - ELT at Thunder Bay Airport

Case Number 2518

At approximately 0030 local time, NOASARA received a call from JRCC Trenton requesting the investigation of an ELT signal in the Thunder Bay Airport vicinity.  By 0100, Peter Huneau and Jay Minor were at the Patterson Hangar and tracking the ELT signal.  The signal appeared to be coming from either the North American Charters Hangar or the Wasaya Hangar.

Within 35 minutes the ELT signal was located in a Nakina Air PC-12, C-GOEW, and was terminated.  Maintenance crew were flushing mud and dirt from the rear of the fuselage, triggering the ELT (this aircraft is used extensively on gravel runways).  The aircraft was in the Wasaya Hangar.

NOASARA crew responding: Jay Minor, Peter Huneau
