Religious Practices Page

Have you become concerned about certain buzzwords you hear frequently in the workplace?  Does your employer promote such things as
Morning Stretch, Team Concept, and WorkplaceWellness Programs?  You are right to be concerned as these practices frequently originate from anti-Christian religious sources.  Christians are being tricked into compromising their faith by paying homage to false gods and even by worshipping idols.  The Atheists, well ... (the joke is on them) they are actually religious after all - like it or not.  Many of these items include ACCEPTED RELIGIOUS PRACTICES among the very same groups of people that are waging war by terrorist attack with the USAand these same practices are sure to become a condition of employment within our lifetime. Read on and see what you can learn.

Religious Practices & Alternate Beliefs:

A Course in Miracles:

A Course In Brainwashing - Catholics across the country are alarmed at the increasing popularity of a New Age phenomenon known as 'A Course in Miracles,' a system of spirituality proponents claim is the 'Third Testament' of God to His people

A Course in Miracles - Ed Hryczyk explains the movement known as 'A Course in Miracles' founded by Mrs. Helen Schucman who claims to receive channelled messages.  The 'spirit' denies the divinity of Christ and claims to find errors in the  Sacred Scriptures.  The 'spirit' that channelled through Mrs. Schucman wrote that Sacred Scripture was in error in teaching us that sin separates us from God, and that Jesus Christ did not die on the cross for our sins

Alternative Health/Faith Healing:

Common Sense Considerations about Homeopathy - Homeopathy goes against all the molecular bases of the modern pharmacology: without a molecule and a receptor in our body, we can't have pharmacologic action

Marketplace - Thinking people all over are beginning to question the validity of Alternative Health Practices such as Alternative Medicines (natural remedies - herbal cures), Chiropractic, Ear-Candling, Magnetic - Therapy and  Shark Cartilage.  I have been curious for quite some time.  If they are in fact frauds then I want to know WHO is behind this movement and WHAT is the real agenda.  Could the effect really be spiritual, even RELIGIOUS?  Could the movers and the shakers behind these dubious treatments be SPIRITS? - GG

Martyrdom of the Holy and Glorious Apostle Bartholomew - If you have ever wanted to understand the REAL power behind such practices as Chiropractic, you owe it to yourself to read this article.  The rebound effect is neatly explained - I always wondered why they NEVER SEEM TO CURE YOU, (so-called maintenance treatments) - GG

Quackwatch - Your Guide to Health Fraud, Quackery, and Intelligent Decisions.  Have you ever noticed how it is mainly desperate chronic sufferers who become involved with STRANGE practices like Acupuncture, Algae Products, Aromatherapy, Chiropractic, Hair Analysis, Homeopathy, Magnetic Therapy, Naturopathy, Shark Cartilage, Therapeutic Touch,  and various other Alternative Health practices?

Testimonials - Can you trust the many glowing reports of successful treatments?

A Religious link - Taoism has had a significant impact on North American culture in areas of "acupuncture, herbalism, holistic medicine, meditation and martial arts..."

Amulets (Talisman, such as crystals, dream catchers, good luck charms, etc.):

** Fact - A great many professing Christians have a crystal, dream catcher, medicine bag or some other non-Christian religious talisman hanging from their rear-view mirror

Amulets - The origin of the word amulet does not seem to have been definitely established.  The thing itself has been used as a safeguard against mishap or danger, or witchcraft, and invoked as a guarantee of success in enterprises...

Angels:

Angels of the New Age Kind - Angels, angels, everywhere!  Modern descriptions of these celestial beings are plentiful: 'visions,' 'kind people in disguise,' 'balls of whirling energy,' 'thoughts,' 'vivid dreams,' 'lights,' 'rainbows,' 'animals' and even 'invisible hands.'  No wonder Christians have difficulty distinguishing modern day angels from the kind they find in Scripture!  What in heaven's name is happening?

Armstrongism (aka The Church of God International, The Philadelphia Church of God, The United Church of God, The Worldwide Church of God, etc.):

The 'Lost Tribes' of Herbert W. Armstrong - This beguiling doctrine had been around for decades before Herbert W. Armstrong founded his church in 1933, and it appeals, naturally enough,  to those of British heritage.  After all, who wouldn't want to be a member of the chosen nation (assuming there is one)?  And that, in Armstrongism, is precisely what the Anglo-Saxons are -- God's chosen nation, where can be found the direct descendant of David and, even today, David's throne

The Lost Tribes of Israel - A movement called 'British Israelism' claims to have found the ten 'lost tribes,' however, and in some very unlikely places.

For many years, one of the leaders in the British Israelism movement was Herbert W. Armstrong, founder of the self-proclaimed 'Worldwide Church of God.'  Especially for Americans, Armstrong was just about the only person they ever heard advocating British Israelism.  With his own paid television program, Armstrong regularly advertised his book The United States and Britain in Prophecy, which advocated the view.

Astrology:

Astrology - Astrology is best understood by learning how it began ...  The origins of astrology can be traced back 3,000 years, to ancient Babylonia.  The existence of large cities depends on efficient and reliable agriculture, and therefore on an accurate calendar, so that farmers know when to plant, when to harvest, etc.  The astronomical observations required to construct a calendar and maintain its accuracy were the task of Babylonia's priesthood.  Since the observers were priests, it seems natural that their names for the objects in the sky they found most useful for calendar purposes corresponded to the names of the immortal gods in the Babylonian pantheon.

Astrology - Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers.  They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone

Horoscopes - From the start the Christian Church has strongly opposed the false teachings of astrology

Baptists:

Baptists - A Protestant denomination which exists chiefly in English speaking countries and owes its name to its characteristic doctrine and practice regarding baptism

Brahminism:

Brahminism - Brahminism means the complex religion and social system which grew out of the polytheistic nature worship of the ancient Aryan conquerors of northern India, and came, with the spread of their dominion, to be extended over the whole country, maintaining itself, not without profound modifications, down to the present day.  In its intricate modern phases it is generally known as Hinduism

Buddhism:

Buddhism - The religious, monastic system, founded c. 500 B.C. on the basis of pantheistic Brahminism.  The speculations of the Vedanta school of religious thought, in the eighth and following centuries, B.C., gave rise to several rival schemes of salvation.

Buddhism - It is not easy the way of Buddhism ... and all of it to get 'Nirvana': The 'lack of all desire' on earth, and 'nothingness' after death.

Calvinism:

Calvinism - The umbrella under which we find the Dutch Reformed Church, Presbyterianism, and many other Protestant denominations.

Charismatic Renewal:

A 'Catholic' Charismatic Extravaganza - On June 27, 1997, I found myself traveling toward this Pentecostal extravaganza.  I went for the purpose of observation.  There was plenty to observe.

Catholic Pentecostals - The Risk Is Too Great.

Charismatic Renewal - Blighted leaven within the Catholic Church.

Errors of Charismatics - Further, the mass phenomena of praying in tongues does not readily fit with St. Paul's injunctions in 1 Corinthians 14: 27-28 where Paul specifies that no more than two should speak in tongues, and then only one at time, and only if there is someone to interpret.  The rule is wise - there are cases where persons who knew the needed languages went to a charismatic gathering - they found some did praise God well, while others cursed Him.

Is the Charismatic Movement truly Catholic? - Charismaticism takes its origins from Protestant Pentecostalism in the United States and it has spread throughout the Catholic Church by the 'Baptism in the Spirit'.
This spiritual baptism is an innovation which the Charismatic renewal attempts to justify by claiming that with the sacraments the Catholic Church has not fulfilled all the abundance of the Gospels.

Pentecostalism: Evaluating a Phenomenon - The purpose here is to make an evaluation.  It is not to impart information about Pentecostalism, since such information is fairly presumed, with all the literature by and about the movement and, for many people, either personal experience or direct observation of the movement in action.

The Catholic Pentecostal Movement - When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, He taught them the Our Father.  Simple.  Not an emotional, energy-packed experience.  Not a 'gift' which some people receive, while others do not (i.e. praying in 'tongues'), but rather a simple prayer which any man, woman or child can say.

Confucianism:

Confucianism - The complex system of moral, social, political, and religious teaching built up by Confucius on the ancient Chinese traditions, and perpetuated as the State religion down to the present day.

Devil Worship:

Satanic Content in Music - By simply listening to a CD, any 15 or 17 year old girl can come into contact with the esoteric world.  The record houses have discovered that the devil can be good business, and they continue to put a certain kind of product on the market, without worrying about the consequences.

Worshiping the Devil - The meaning of this compound term is sufficiently obvious, for all must be familiar with the significance of its two component parts.

Divination (aka dowsing, pendulums, witching for water):

Divination - Searching for people or objects, predicting the sex of an unborn child by using a pendulum.  Sometimes referred to as Witching for water  - Hmmm. the very name might yield an important clue.

Eastern Orthodoxy:

One of the most tragic divisions within Christianity is the one between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox churches.  Both have valid holy orders and apostolic succession through the episcopacy, both celebrate the same sacraments, both believe almost exactly the same theology, and both proclaim the same faith in Christ.  So, why the division?  What caused the division?  And what can be done to bring about a reconciliation?

End Times Prophecy (Rapture, Premillennialism):

Endtimes/Millenium/Rapture - The Second Coming is associated with the end of the world and the Last Judgment. Therefore, it is NOT associated with any earlier time - such as to establish a 'Millennium.'  The Catholic Church specifically condemns 'millenarianism,' according to which Jesus will establish a throne in this world and reign here for a thousand years.

Ennegram (popular among New-Agers these days):

Enneagram - Because it is merely a symbol of geometric design, the enneagram itself presents no offense to faith or morals.  However, particular use of the enneagram for cultic or pseudo-scientific practices can pose a threat to Catholic belief and practices.

Enneagram - The man primarily responsible for transmitting the Enneagram into the West was George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, an Armenian occultist who lived in Russia from 1877 to 1947.

Enneagram versus The Catholic Church - There are times when Christian elements are assimilated into another religion and there is an effort to deceive and trick good people into practicing another religion and worshipping false gods.

Evolution Theory:

Apes 'R' Not Us' - Darwin could in no single instance prove that one species had changed into another.  His case was entirely theoretical; it rested on a train of thought rather than empirical observation.  He staked everything on the idea that species were not hard-edged, that they had a virtually unlimited potential to change into something new.  But here he ran into problems, as do his disciples today.

A published response to a question posed by the Orlando Sentinel (09/30/02) - Should the teaching of evolution still be an issue 77 years after the trial of teacher John T. Scopes?

Biochemistry and Belief - Pope John Paul II's recent statement that evolution is more than just a theory caused a flurry of headlines across the international media.  One startled newspaper in Italy declared:
'The Pope Says We May Descend from Apes.'

Creation / Evolution Facts:
1 - The origin of life is unknown to science.
2 - The origin of the main organic types and their principal subdivisions are likewise unknown to science.
3 - There is no evidence in favor of an ascending evolution of organic forms.
4 - THERE IS NO TRACE OF EVEN A MERELY PROBABLE ARGUMENT IN FAVOR OF THE ANIMAL ORIGIN OF MAN.  The earliest human fossils and the most ancient traces of culture refer to a true Homo sapiens as we know him today

Darwinism and the theory of evolution are by no means equivalent conceptions.  The theory of evolution was propounded before Charles Darwin's time, by Lamarck (1809) and Geoffroy de Saint-Hilaire. Darwin, in 1859, gave it a new form by endeavouring to explain the origin of species by means of natural selection.  According to this theory the breeding of new species depends on the survival of the fittest in the struggle for existence.  The Darwinian theory of selection is Darwinism

Darwinism is not evolution - Darwinism is a theory of evolution.  Darwinism is a theory ONLY.  It is not a fact.  Many people believe it is an established, scientific fact.  IT IS NOT!

Evolution - Some people have the notion that Christianity and science are at odds.  A false Christianity may be at odds with science, or a false science may be at odds with Christianity.  But true Christianity and true science cannot be opposed ... The reason why true science and Christianity cannot be in opposition is because they both emanate from the same source.  God is the Author of nature and the Founder of Christianity.  As God cannot contradict Himself, science cannot contradict Christianity

Evolution: A Catholic Perspective - Catholic faith and scientific knowledge are wholly compatible.  The conflicts being aired today are really a pseudo controversy.  Dogmatic fundamentalists do not reflect Catholic tradition, and dogmatic evolutionists do not fairly represent science

Evolution: The Great Fairy Tale for Grown-ups - First of all, today we can say that we are living in the triumph of evolutionism.  Evolution sits in the temple of God and is worshipped as God.  It is given the attributes we have always given to God:
OMNIPOTENCE Because it is believed to be the creating and driving force of everything in the universe without exception.
OMNIPRESENCE Because it pervades everything and is found everywhere ... it's in the media, in education, in politics and in the Church

The Bombardier Beetle - Evolutionary Accident or Everlasting Architect??  Could this marvellous and complex mechanism have evolved piecemeal over millions of years?  The evolutionist sheepishly responds 'yes.'

The Media has Twisted the Pope's Statement on Evolution - The Pope in no way gave the Church's consent to 'Darwinism,' as has been widely reported.  The scientific community itself has already all but disproved this popular hypothesis.  Nor did the Pope write anything new concerning the Church's position on the various theories of evolution

The Theory of Evolution DISPROVED - Most people today have learned about the "theory of evolution" at some point during their grade school years, and assume this theory is fact. Though most people do not know the details behind this theory, who proposed it, and what evidence the theory has been based on. If anyone stops to take a look at this so-called evidence, they will realize that much of it is not evidence but simply a combination of assumptions and wishful thinking.

Exorcism:

Begone Satan! - An account of a real exorcism in Iowa in 1928

Who has the Power to Exorcise Demons? - Ignorance of the need for proper authority is bliss, that is, successful, if and only if God empowers it.  But this is very dangerous all together, for without the proper authority one is personally opened up to the attacks of the evil one

Feminism:

Feminism - There has been injustice toward women by men.  This should be no surprise to us.  The book of Genesis tells us that the first fruits of original sin were the disruption in the relationship between men and women

Fortune Telling:

Fortune Tellers - The Archdiocese of Seville (Spain) is warning the faithful about the spread of television programs in which viewers call on the help of fortune-tellers, witches and tarot card soothsayers to fathom the future

Freemasonry:

See Masons & Freemasons section below

Halloween:

Smashing Pumpkins - Jack Chick, author of numerous anti-Catholic tracts, and hysterical Fundamentalist par excellence, gives his version of Halloween's history in his tract, 'The Trick' ...
There are about as many errors here as there are vowels

Healing of the Inner Child:

The Healing of the Inner Child and all that it entails is new age garbage.

Horoscope:

Horoscopes - Consulting horoscopes is a form of divination and as such, rejected by the Church. Consulting horoscopes is an offense against the First Commandment ("I am the LORD your God . . . you shall have no other gods before me.")

Hypnotism:

Hypnotism - Hypnosis is not only powerless to effect a moral or physical cure, to heal radically any malady whatever, but it is also, and above everything else, a dangerous method. It is right that this point should be insisted on. In the practice of hypnotism there are physical or physiological, psychic or intellectual, and above all moral, dangers

The Use of Hypnotism - There is of course nothing wrong in itself with the practice of hypnotism, and therefore under certain conditions its use would be licit.  Since hypnotism, however, violently deprives the subject of the full use of reason and free will, a justifying cause is required for allowing it to be practiced

Illuminati:

Illuminati - The name Illuminati first appeared in Spain in the sixteenth century and was used by people who were supposed mystics who claimed to have direct intercourse with God

Islam:

See Mohammedanism

Jehovah's Witnesses (aka Russelites):

Are They Awake on The Watchtower? - You’ve seen them on street corners or ringing doorbells in your neighbourhood.  They travel in pairs, carrying copies of their magazines.  They’re Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs), members of a fast-growing, non-Christian religion.

101 questions every Jehovah's Witness should be asked using the NWT - These questions have been put together using information from many different sources.  All verses are from the NWT and since they are from a Catholic prospective the contrast from 'True Church' to 'Non Church' is quite dramatic.  Hint - The most important question is also the most important doctrine.  This doctrine separates the men from the boys and it EVEN TRIPPED UP JUDAS HIMSELF!

Incredible Creed of the Jehovah's Witnesses - The Witnesses of Jehovah constitute one of the most vigorous and spectacular religious propagandist bodies of the present day.  Throughout the world an army of persistent enthusiasts tramp from door to door, urging people to adopt their teachings as a matter of life and death

Jehovah's Witnesses - Just one of a multitude of sites offering JW info from a Christian perspective

Jehovah's Witnesses? - Jehovah's Witnesses have a history of false claims and faulty theology.  This hardly qualifies them to be 'God's visible organization,' let alone 'His Prophet.'

Jehovah Witnesses and the Satanic Church - Jehovah's Witnesses like to say that the Catholic Church was founded by Satan.  Once again they have failed to comprehend their own Bible and the history of the Catholic Church

Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower - This little book came about following a 'Bible Study' with a Jehovah's Witness couple in Prince Rupert, British Columbia

Pastor Russell - While the Watchtower claims Russell as its own, few people who join it today are aware of the false prophecies propounded by its esteemed founder

Questions for Jehovah's Witnesses - This is a work in progress that I am personally involved with

Why Jehovah's Witnesses Leave the Watchtower - It is now estimated that there are now more persons who have resigned or left the Watchtower Society than there are active Witnesses

Jesus Seminar:

The Jesus Seminar - While the saga of Salman Rushdie seems to inhibit anyone from holding a 'Mohammed Seminar,' the press regularly marks the major Christian feasts with accounts of experts casting lots to decide what Jesus really said

Jesus Seminar Should Go Back to School - The Jesus Seminar is a group of liberal professors who have dissected the gospels and concluded Jesus said almost nothing they record him saying.  The Seminar has obtained a lot of press for itself in the last couple of years, but though it presents itself as being on the cutting edge of biblical scholarship, there is actually nothing new about what it says.  Its hypercritical approach to the gospels has been around for almost two hundred years

Jungism (Carl Gustov Jung):

** From Alchemy to Alcoholics Anonymous toTeam Concept, CG Jung was involved with it all.  Here is something that gives some insight into his 'spiritual' side - GG

The Jung Cult - Look at any 'spirituality' or retreat program sponsored by a diocese or a religious house, and there is probably an 85% chance the leader will be a certified Jungian therapist or a priest or a nun who is teaching Jungian therapies

Lutheranism - The oldest, and, perhaps, the most numerous of the Protestant sects:

Lutheranism - Luther preferred the designation 'Evangelical', and today the usual title of the sect is 'Evangelical Lutheran Church'

Magic, Magick (aka Sorcery):

'Magic' IS the second kind of Occultism.  Divination attempts to 'foretell the future'.  Magic tries to 'change it', the present and the future of persons, and nature: Heal the sick, kill an enemy, change the weather ... it tries to manipulate nature and even the spirits, by means of spells, rituals, charms, prayers ...

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi:

The Basic Conflict Between the Maharishi and Christianity - The 'mantras' given to the followers of the Maharishi have been discovered to be invocations, in most of the cases, to deities of the Hindu pantheon

Masons & Freemasons (Includes the Shriners) -- There is absolutely nothing free about it!   The cost is dear indeed:

Matthew 12:26 For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul?

Catholicism VS. Freemasonry — Irreconcilable forever

Declaration on Masonic Associations - The most recent decree from the Vatican on the subject of Freemasonry and is thus is the most current statement of the Church's law on this topic

FAQs on Freemasonry - This compilation was made during the writer's journey out of Freemasonry and back to the Church.

Freemasonry - It is well known that the Catholic Church is opposed to Freemasonry.  Indeed it is excommunication for a Catholic to be a Freemason.  Freemasons know this.  Parkinson, an illustrious Mason says: 'The two systems of Romanism and Freemasonry are not only incompatible, but they are radically opposed to each other' (Freemason's Chronicle, 1884, II, I7)

Freemasonry - 'Masonry', 'The Brotherhood', 'The Lodge', 'The Craft'

Freemasons - Despite the Church's clear rejection of Freemasonry, Catholics are falsely told that they can join the Lodge without compromising their faith.  The evidence shows that Freemasonry is itself a religion, although Masons will deny that this is so.  The "New Catholic Encyclopedia" states that "Freemasonry displays all the elements of religion, and as such it becomes a rival to the religion of the Gospel.  It includes temples and altars, prayers, a moral code, worship, vestments, feast days, the promise of reward and punishment in the afterlife, a hierarchy, and initiative and burial rites" (vol. 6, page 137).

Masonry is a religion -  The New Catholic Encyclopedia states, 'Freemasonry displays all the elements of religion...

Padre Pio confronted Masons on more than one occasion - Search this page for more about Masonry opposing the Church

The Masonic Religion - This article explains why Freemasonry should be considered a religion in opposition to Catholicism

The Masons Themselves Make The Church's Case Against Them

Mark 8:36 "For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his soul?"

Mohammedanism (aka Islam, Muslims):

From 'Cold War to Guerra Frai? - Despite the much celebrated Israeli/Palestinian settlement, Yasser Arafat recently made some curious statements during a trip to South Africa, especially for a man supposedly promoting authentic peace in the Middle East

Mohammedanism - Mohammed, 'the Praised One', the prophet of Islam was the founder of Mohammedanism

Apostates of Islam - We left Islam

Mormonism:

Is Mormonism Christian? - That is not the only interesting question, but it is probably the most important.  Most non Mormons have little occasion to think about Mormonism

Mormons - Joseph Smith was the first prophet of the church he served for 14 years, then the Mormons claim he was martyred by a mob in Carthage, Illinois.  The facts are that he was killed by this mob but only after he had emptied a pistol into them, killing two people and wounding another.  It appears he did not go to his death as the Christian martyrs were known to do

Mormons are Not Protestants - Truth be known, they never were!

Mormonism's Baptism for the Dead - Most non-Mormons are dimly aware that the Mormons are interested in genealogy, but they are not sure why ...  You might be surprised to learn that the Mormon church has teams of men and women microfilming records of Catholic and Protestant parishes, cemetery records, birth and death certificates -- virtually any sort of record pertaining to past generations.  Temple Mormons hope, in time, to have all of the dead of previous generations baptized posthumously into the Mormon church.

Mormon Teaching And The Book of Mormon Do Not Agree - Plus some other very disturbing things that they teach or do not teach

New Age Movement:

A Christian reflection on the “New Age” - The following reflections are meant as a guide for Catholics involved in preaching the Gospel and teaching the faith at any level within the Church.  This document does not aim at providing a set of complete answers to the many questions raised by the New Age or other contemporary signs of the perennial human search for happiness, meaning and salvation.  It is an invitation to understand the New Age and to engage in a genuine dialogue with those who are influenced by New Age thought.

New age - Methods range through the alphabet, from acupuncture to Zen Buddhism, taking in yoga meditation, mysticism, spiritualism, crystals, pyramids, clairvoyance, biofeedback, reincarnation therapies, tarot cards, ouija boards, astrology, tea leaves, occult devices, dream therapy, holistic healing, astrological charts, parasychologic mystic experiences, telepathy, self hypnosis, mind control, spiritistic channelling, balancing the yin and yang, witchcraft rituals, Egyptian knowledge, mantras, angiology, extraterrestrial beings, neurolinguistic trainers, herbologists, guided imaginary, centering prayer, polarity therapy, reflexology, therapeutic touching, homeopathy ... and, of course, any kind of super sexual activity ... it looks difficult to understand, but it is very simple, because it is just the old 4 tricks of Satan described in Genesis 3 : 4-5 when he answered to Eve: 'You will not die; for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil'

New Age Lies - The NAM, on the surface, appears to be a good thing.  It promises global peace, health, personal and spiritual growth, and environmental stability.  However, the methods it promotes to achieve these goals are cleverly hidden beneath this benevolent surface appearance.  A closer scrutiny reveals a dark, sinister methodology for drawing people away from the Jesus Christ and towards individualism, and the religious practices of pagans, belief in reincarnation, and the power of the 'Self'

Occultism:

In a restricted sense magic is understood to be an interference with the usual course of physical nature ...

Oneness Pentacostalism (aka Jesus Only):

Baptism administered In the Name of Jesus Only - The Lord Himself told His disciples that they should baptize all peoples in the name of the FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Paganism:

Historians of religion usually assume that religions developed upwards from some common germ which they call Totemism, Animism, Solar or Astral Myth, Nature Worship in general or Agrarian in particular, or some other name implying a systematic interpretation of the facts

Pentacostalism:

The Pentecostal 'speaking in tongues' - The hallmark of the Pentecostal movement is its believe in miracles specifically speaking in 'tongues'.  Most Pentecostals believe that in order to be a "true Christian one must be able to speak in the Spirit".  In other words those religious denominations which cannot (or don’t) speak in tongues are not from a Holy Spirit

Protestantism:

Protestantism - Just what is Protestantism anyway?

Psychics:

You Can Trust Me, I'm a Psychic - You can't turn on the TV these days without being accosted by an infomercial for the latest scam: psychic hotlines.  New ones spring up practically every day, and this fast growing fad is grabbing a lot more than foolish people's cash - souls are at stake.  Have you ever wondered why these 900# scams are so effective in duping so many?  Here's a look at the silliness ...

Psychology:

In the most general sense, psychology is the science which treats of the soul and its operations.  During the past century, however, the term has come to be frequently employed to denote the latter branch of knowledge - the science of the phenomena of the mind, of the processes or states of human consciousness

Psychotherapy:

Psychotherapy is that branch of therapeutics which uses the mind to influence the body ... and the priests in ancient Egypt used it effectively

Reincarnation (Nirvana, past lives, past life regression therapy):

New Agers claim that the early Church originally believed in reincarnation and that the doctrine was 'taken out of the Bible'.  I am sorry but historical accounts do not provide support for this absurd idea

Reincarnation - For a Christian there can be no possibility of belief in reincarnation.  The letter to the Hebrews tells us, 'it is appointed to man to die once and then the judgment' (Heb 9:27)

Rosicrucianism:

Rosicrucian Fellowship - There are several groups, the largest is the 'AMORC', 'Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis', with 50,000 active members, based in San Jose, California

Sabbatarians, Sabbatarianism:

Sabbatarians - The American sect of Seventh Day Adventists may be added to the list of Sabbatarian communities, among which their large numbers should give them a conspicuous place

Secularism:

Secularism is a term used for the first time about 1846 by George Jacob Holyoake to denote 'a form of opinion which concerns itself only with questions, the issues of which can be tested by the experience of this life'...

Self Esteem:

Come on a Guilt Trip With Us - Too Much? Too Little? What's the right amount of guilt?
Psychology tends to see all guilt as neurotic guilt, and urges the individual to become 'comfortable' with himself.  So long as an individual examines his 'values' and 'owns them,' he has psychological health.  The notion of 'value free' psychology was pioneered by Karl Rogers.  By the end of his life, though, he recognized that there was no such thing as 'value free' psychology

Shintoism:

Shintoism - The main deity is 'goddess Amaterasu', a sun goddess of fertility, reputed to be the founder of the ruler dynasty in Japan, so the Emperor is divine ... and Shintoism was the state religion until World War II (1945)

Spiritism (AA Conference Approved Literature freely admits that Spiritism is indeed THE ROOT of ALL of the 12 Step Recovery Programs that are so popular these days.  AA and its famous Twelve Steps are heavily relied on by Workplace  Wellness Programs):

Common Sense Considerations about Spiritism - For an unknown reason, no one ever successfully evoked the spirit of Pierre Fermat ...

Spiritism is the name properly given to the belief that the living can and do communicate with the spirits of the departed, and to the various practices by which such communication is attempted. (rapping, automatic writing, etc.)

Spiritualism (AA Conference Approved Literature contains a great  many references admitting that the founders of Alcoholics Anonymous were practicers of Spiritualism.  These are the people who wrote the book.  The AA book is indispensable to workplace  Wellness Programs):

Spiritualism - The Catholic Church has always condemned any attempt to hold communication of set purpose with the spirits of the dead

Stretching (In the last few years popular Stretching Programs have been found to be completely ineffective for reducing injuries in the workplace or anywhere else.  This begs the question - Why are we pushed so hard to get involved with these practices?:

Morning Stretch- The source is religious and the effect is religious too.  "Bring the body and the mind will follow"

Stretching before exercise does not reduce the risk of local muscle injury- A critical review of the clinical and basic science literature

Stretching does NOT prevent injuries by Gabe Mirkin, M.D. - A study from Montreal shows that there is no evidence that stretching helps to prevent injuries.

Stretching does NOT prevent muscle soreness by Gabe Mirkin, M.D. - An article in the British Medical Journal shows that stretching before and after exercising does not prevent next-day muscle soreness or injuries.  Researchers in Australia reviewed five studies, involving 77 subjects, on the effect of stretching on muscle soreness.

Stretching does NOT reduce injury, study finds- A new study suggests that stretching before or even after exercise does not prevent muscle soreness or reduce the risk of injury.
The finding, published in the British Medical Journal on Friday, comes from an assessment by researchers in Australia.

Study: Stretching doesn't really help- Coaches, physiotherapists and many sports-medicine doctors may be convinced that stretching keeps athletes from injuries, but a review of the medical literature published in the current edition of the British Medical Journal says that's a stretch, at least according to the evidence.

Stretching 'fails to stop muscle injury'- Scientists have cast doubt on the benefits of stretching before and after exercise as a way of reducing soreness and the risk of injury.

Taoism ( Taoist practices such as Tai Chi Chuan were used as a pattern for workplace Morning Stretch.  Many notices have been posted by my employer admitting to this very fact - GG):

Taoism and the Philosophy of Tai Chi Chuan - In a very real sense one can consider Tai Chi Chuan to be a physical expression and manifestation of the principles and philosophy of Taoism.

'Taoism, as the word indicates, is the Religion of the Tao,  a term meaning Path or Way (John 14:6), but denoting in this peculiar case the way, course or movement of the Universe, her processes and methods.  In other words, Taoism is the Religion of Heaven and Earth, of the Cosmos, of the World or Nature in the broadest sense of these words

Taoist Tai Chi - The health-enhancing qualities of Tai Chi Chuan are founded in the lore of religious Taoism ...  The lay transmission of Tai Chi has from its inception stressed the use of Tai Chi principles for martial arts purposes, while also seeking health benefits from the practice of Tai Chi.  It has however, maintained a tenuous link to the more spiritual or religious facets found in Taoist training.

The essence of Taoism is "Tao", "the way", who is not the "eternal Tao", (not God the Father); he is "the way, the truth and the life" (does it sound like Christ?)... the translation of the Bible in Chinese reads, "In the beginning was the Tao, and the Tao was with God, and the Tao was God"...like John1:1... the "Tao" is "infinite profundity", "the origin of all things", "a stabilizing force, for where Tao is equilibrium"... "it existed before heaven and earth", "it is eternal", "stands alone, and never changes, pervades everywhere", "Tao is the source of all things, the treasure of good men, and the sustainer of bad men"... He is the "Word", Jesus Christ!.

Telepathy:

Telepathy is a term introduced by F.W.H. Myers in 1882 to denote 'the ability of one mind to impress or to be impressed by another mind otherwise than through the recognized channels of sense'

Toronto Blessing:

'Giggling for God' - A New Spirit of Hysteria is Spreading in the Protestant Church

Toronto Blessing (a little treatise) - The Toronto Blessing, sometimes called 'Holy Laughter,' originated at the Toronto Airport Vineyard Church.  Its purpose is to establish a new paradigm for an international, interdenominational church, with a new worldwide leadership.  Many elements of this movement, both in its teaching and the phenomena associated with it, raise serious issues in light of the Catholic mystical tradition and Catholic doctrine

Totemism:

The Phenomena of Totemism were first brought to the knowledge of the civilized world by the Jesuit missionaries to North America in the seventeenth century

Transcendental Meditation:

The Maharishi's doctrine and teaching on (1) God, (2) man, (3) the way to go to God, (4) pain and suffering, and (5) sin ...

Twelve Step Recovery Movement:

Jungians Believe Traditional Catholics Impede 'Renewal' - Carl Gustov Jung is credited by Bill W. himself with helping to found Alcoholics Anonymous (the mother of EVERY 12 Step program in existence).  This site makes for an interesting read with its references to 'Centering Prayer ', 'Same Words Different Meanings ' and 'The Spiritual Elite '

Jung Replaces Jesus in Catholic Spirituality - It's certainly one of the most bizarre developments in 20th century Catholicism that Carl Gustov Jung, dedicated to the destruction of the Catholic Church and the establishment of an anti Church based on psychoanalysis, should have become the premier spiritual guide in the Church throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe over the last three decades ... Catholic scholars, priests, religious, and laity have gone over to Jung with the fervour of Athenians flocking to the Oracle at Delphi

Quackwatch - Dictionary of Metaphysical Healthcare, items beginning with 'T'. Scroll down to 'Twelve Steps' and see what they have to say

UFO-ology:

Concerning life on other planets - The Virgin Mary speaks, Bayside, New York, September 28, 1974

UFOs / Heavens Gate / Solar Temple - The 'UFOs' ('Unidentified Flying Objects') is a very controversial subject

Unitarians:

A Liberal Protestant sect which holds as it distinctive tenet the belief in a uni-personal instead of a tri-personal God

Universalists:

A Liberal Protestant sect found chiefly in North America, whose distinctive tenet is the belief in the final salvation of all souls.  The doctrine of universal salvation found favor among members of various Christian Churches

Witchcraft (aka Wicca):

It is not easy to draw a clear distinction between magic and Witchcraft

The Goddess Movement - Historically speaking, the 'ancient' rituals of the Goddess movement are almost certainly bunk - Any 'Christian' who believes that Catholicism is influenced by 'Pagan' rituals should read this page

Witchcraft - In Ireland there are no witches, because something special happened with St. Patrick: He has resurrected 39, and the witches wanted to make a mockery of him. So, one of them would pretend to be death, and the others would call St. Patrick to resurrect him ... St., Patrick came, and said, 'he is dead', and walked away ... and he was dead! ... two days later they call St. Patrick again, and resurrected the really dead witch ... and no more witches in Ireland ...

Word of Faith Movement: Name It and Claim It:

The Word of Faith Movement - Faith teachers are not all the same.  Some wander farther from the truth than others.  However, there is much they have in common.

The Word of Faith Movement - The Word of Faith Movement, sometimes referred to as the Positive Confession Movement or the Prosperity Gospel, has been making inroads into mainline Christianity.  Although it primarily affects Bible churches, it has managed to influence some Catholics

Some well known evangelists, authors and television personalities tell us that what we speak with our mouths creates the circumastances of your lives.  The message is that all health and wealth are ours simply by learning and practicing the spiriatual principals that bring them to us - Fr. Mitch Pacwa and Paul Thigpen (a former Pentecostal Pastor) discuss the fallacies behind the Word of Faith Movement, the practice that teaches you that the power of thought can change God's will!  * Click on the link to listen in RealAudio *

Yoga:

Yoga - Yoga, which arose in the Hinduism of India, is the most ancient of these traditions.  The word “Yoga” means “yoke” or “union” (2 Corinthians 6:14).  It involves an attempt at spiritual liberation and union with the divine source of all.  It does this by means of an emptying of the mind, a stilling of the senses, and dissociation from the material world (which is regarded as illusory).

Zen (includes the Martial Arts such as Karate, Kung Fu & Tai Kwan Do) See also Buddhism:
See also Taoism for Martial Arts such as Tai Chi Chuan:

Karate is Zen - So says Master Oyama and many other karate masters. Zen is a school of Buddhism that has been called the "Religion of Immediate Reality."

Taekwondo & the Martial Arts: Mere Exercise or Trojan Horse?? - Few westerners have enough experience with Zen Buddhism to initially notice the hidden religious nature of martial arts. Chuck Norris, famous for his role as Walker on the TV show Texas Ranger, holds unreservedly that ‘the ancient system of Zen (is) the core philosophy behind the martial arts.’

Zen Meditation - Zen is characterized by its radical orientation to attain 'enlightenment', understood as a super clear experience of the original unity of being

Before getting involved with the Martial Arts, read some of their own books about the subject.  What you will find is that they freely admit that the concept of self-defence that is contained within these practices CANNOT BE SEPARATED FROM THEIR RELIGIOUS ROOTS!  To practice these Martial Arts is to be involved with a religion (that might not be of your choosing) and to worship a false god.  Books about Yoga will show similar connections with religious activities.

You may find, after following these links, that 'heart knowledge' has begun to spring up inside of you. You may also sense that it is at war with your 'head knowledge', and that this newfound 'heart knowledge' is becoming increasingly incompatible with what you believe. IF that is the case, then perhaps you are ready to take this most important step of Becoming a Christian
