Questions

for

Jehovah's Witnesses

Wilfred and Margery Tenkula of Nolalu, Ontario, Canada - This page is dedicated to you.  Maybe the one day you will be better prepared before you attempt to convince a Christian to abandon his faith.  You did not even have the intestinal fortitude to admit that you had trouble with these questions.  The reason for your difficulty is clear - you adhere to error and know not the truth.

The inspiration for this page came to me after a visit from Wilfred and Margery who are members of Jehovah's Witnesses.  They dropped in one day in July 2003, and Wilfred leaned on my truck with me and we talked for at least an hour.  Although I announced quite clearly (twice) that 'I am a Catholic and have no intention of changing' he insisted on returning anyway.  He did not return alone and that fact cheesed me off.  I promptly told them that I do not appreciate the attempt at 'double-teaming' but I invited them inside anyway and offered tea or coffee, then I produced a few of the many questions that I had prepared for them.  As I went over the written questions (just to make sure they understood them) I asked 'Have you ever seen this?' and passed over a picture of the Pyramid at C.T. Russell's grave and watched the fun.  They had never seen it before and did not even know about it.  They haven't a chance of forgetting about it now!

After about 3 hours they left for home and took the 5 pages of my questions (they refused the picture of the pyramid) with them.  I made it clear that my answered questions are the price of admission next time.  After only 2 days they sneaked back while nobody was home only to wedge my unanswered questions between the doors.

September 27, 2003 - I was finally paid another visit.  Wilfred brought another mouthpiece, a Mrs. Simpson, and she was even less knowledgeable than Margery. Mrs. Simpson is an ex-Catholic and she used to attend the very Catholic Church I attend.  She attempted to link the Apostles with the Watchtower Society but her face went colourless when I reminded her of the broken lineage of the Jehovah's Witnesses.  She then asked if the Catholic Church follows the Bible and I told her that the Bible follows the Catholic Church - it really is a matter of order and the Church came first.  She attempted to change the subject when I told her about the origin of the Bible.  When I told her that the Catholic Church begat the Bible and then the Protestants took the Bible and threw out some of its books and then it was that altered Bible that begat the Watchtower Society she was aghast.  I reinforced this teaching by informing them that essentially the Watchtower Society was based on the 'scratch notes' of the Catholic Church.  Seeing her dilemma I then called to her attention the lack of miracles in the Watchtower Society and then she got real nervous.  She did try a quote (out of context) of II Timothy 3:15 and I excitedly announced that she had avoided the rest of the quote and asked them both to come inside so I could explain it to them using their own bible and they refused.  There was no way they were going to come inside with me for discussion (especially since they had made no attempt to answer my original questions) and they soon fled saying they had no time to spare.  Funny, they drove off back in the direction from whence they came.  They had plenty of time to visit when they first arrived but then they didn't have any time to visit when they saw that they are not strong enough for the task at hand.
Better luck next time!

July 2, 2005 - It was getting to be a long time between visits and then I heard the dog barking wildly as she strained on her leash.  Poor old Wilfred knocked so very softly, he couldn't possibly have expected someone to answer the door.  His face showed his shock when I answered on the first knock and said - "You have to knock louder if you really want someone to answer the door you know.  You see this", I asked as I pointed to the crucifix that is prominently mounted on our inner door?  "Still Catholic and still not changing" I proudly exclaimed.  "I just thought we should stop and see how things are" Wilfred said.  My reply was "The True Church must be ancient, it simply MUST be ancient.  You failed to be able to trace your congregation any farther back than the late 1800's.  I can trace the Catholic Church all the way back to Christ so Hallelujah brother" and I shut the door.

October 22, 2006 - It was so long since the last visit that I confess to having forgotten what their vehicle looks like and what their names are.  Wilfred climbed out of the mini-van and I exclaimed "Still Catholic -- Not changing!"  He replied "I know but I wanted to give you this" and he showed me the latest from the presses of the Watchtower Society - "The End of False Religion is Near".  "Not interested" said I.  Next, he said that they are distributing this literature world wide (same as all of the rest of their propaganda).  "Still not interested, bye."
Must be tough to have to go over the same residences again and again.

March 28, 2007 - It has been a very long time since the last visit.  Even though someone was home all day, they chose to leave a crumpled and dog-eared pamphlet at the foot of the stairs for me to find by chance (I seldom look that close for that sort of stuff).

May 15, 2007 - It appears that the safe way to visit is to make sure that I am at Mass.  Today I found a pamphlet crammed in the door jam when I returned from Church.

December 12, 2009 - Returned from choir practice at Church and found a pamphlet crammed in the door jam.

One way for a Christian to defend their faith from the cultist at the door is to become familiar with their tactics.  The best defence remains to simply become well grounded in your own faith.  Truth IS stranger than fiction and when one is armed with facts about the True Christian Faith they cannot be refuted by anyone.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Bible quotations for this section are taken from the Watchtower's New World Translation, revised - 1970

144,000 Class - Jehovah's Witnesses believe that only 144,000 people ever get to heaven and that they are all Jehovah's Witnesses.  What does Holy Scripture have to say about this?

Afterlife - One of the best things Jesus did for us is purchase eternal life for his church.  Jehovah's Witnesses have a REAL problem with the reality of the afterlife.

Apostolic Succession - The True Church should be able to trace its lineage in a direct and unbroken line all the way back through the apostles to Jesus Christ Himself.

Apparitions - The Bible makes it crystal clear that members of the True Church will see apparitions.

Baptism - One of the clearest teachings in the Bible is Baptism unless, of course, you are a Jehovah's Witness.  Somehow it is not so clear to them.

Bible - Is the New World Translation REALLY a Bible or does it just resemble one?

Blood Transfusions - Is life REALLY in the blood (ours) or in The Blood (of Jesus)?

Clean & Undefiled Religion - The Bible is very clear on this point so how does the Watchtower Society measure up?

Choosing a Church - Jehovah's Witnesses expect you to change your church family to theirs.  How should one go about making this life changing decision?

Clergy - Who comprises Jehovah's Witness Clergy?

Cross or Stake? - Jehovah's Witnesses spend a great deal of time and energy trying to prove that Jesus did not die on the Cross.  Why do they fight so hard against the cross?  Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Eucharist - Christians call it Eucharist (Thanksgiving) and Jehovah's Witnesses call it the Memorial.  Why the difference?

Extra Biblical Writings - Can Jehovah's Witnesses read extra-Biblical Writings?

Holy Spirit - Is HE God or is IT an impersonal active force?  This may be one of the most important questions that a Christian should be able to answer.

Is Jehovah the name of God? - The Jehovah's Witnesses make such a big deal about this it deserves our attention.

Mary - When did you last hear Mary called happy?

Miracles - Holy Scripture is quite clear on this point.  Miracles will follow the True Church.  This is a work that is constantly in progress.

Name & Pedigree - How did the Watchtower Society get their teaching authority?

Prayer - What does prayer consist of and who is it who should be prayed to?

Prophecy - The Watchtower Society has made thousands of prophetic predictions.  How accurate have these predictions been?

Ressurection of Jesus - If Jesus didn't REALLY rise from the dead then ...?

Scripture - What does the Bible say that it is?  What does the Bible say is NOT scripture?

Second Coming of Christ - When did/will Jesus come again (if ever/or did he?)?

Theocratic War Strategy - Don't you find it amusing that people who refuse to take and active role in the armed forces and forbid its members to become policemen would have a 'War Strategy'? I sure do!

Trinity doctrine is supported by the New World Translation - All a Jehovah's Witness has to do is READ THEIR OWN BIBLE and they can know the truth.  This is a lengthy work that is still in progress.  Perhaps this winter I can get it finished.

United Nations - After years of denouncing the United Nations as being controlled by Satan the Watchtower Society is discovered to be a LONG TIME MEMBER IN GOOD STANDING!

Worship - This is an important subject.  God has revealed to us how he desires us to worship so why the confusion?

You may find, after following these links, that 'heart knowledge' has begun to spring up inside of you.  You may also sense that it is at war with your 'head knowledge', and that this newfound 'heart knowledge' is becoming increasingly incompatible with what you believe. IF that is the case, then perhaps you are ready to take this most important step of
Becoming a Christian
