Miracles

the True Church

To discredit the countless miracles that had been given in confirmation of the Catholic faith, the original Protestant Reformers utterly rejected the idea that miracles had continued beyond the apostolic age.

However, when the Pentecostal movement began in Protestantism in 1900, with its emphasis on miraculous healing and other charisms, the Pentecostals had to find ways to try to explain why such miracles had "vanished" for so long.  The answer is that they never did . . . Miracles have always been found in the Catholic Church, and the idea that they stopped with the death of the last apostle would have been foreign to the
early Church Fathers.

The gift of miracles has never ceased to show its presence in the Catholic Church. "If you would not believe Me" said Our Lord to the Jews, "believe the works I do."

"The Catholic Faith alone produces miracles, which are never seen among heretics.  Plants of this sort cannot grow in a soil cursed by God; they can take root only in that Church where the True Faith is professed . . . God cannot sanction the performance of a miracle except in favor of the true religion; were He to permit it in support of error, He would deceive us."
St. Alphonsus Marie de Liguori, Bishop & Doctor of the Church

Miracles
- "Often we hear people loosely use the term "miracle" in every day conversation, such as, "that was a miracle!" and "I sure could use a miracle right now!", though few people know much about significant miracles and their history.  Some people simply do not believe in miracles as being REAL, but rather think they are only found in fairy tales.  Others claim they believe in miracles but still have little or no idea about what a true miracle is, if they really occur, where they occur, to whom, and what types have been claimed to have occurred repeatedly over the centuries.  On this page we will describe what a true miracle is based on, writings over the last 2000 years."

Incorruptible bodies after death (Psalm 16:10 ; Acts 2:27-31)  (Incorruptibility is not recognized by the Church as a proof of sainthood but, it is a powerful sign):

Walking on Water:

Jesus -- Matthew 14:25
John 14:11, 12 -- Jesus says " Believe me that I am in union with the Father and the Father is in union with me; otherwise, believe on account of the works themselves.  Most truly I say to YOU, He that exercises faith in me, that one also will do the works that I do (Jesus also walked on water); and he will do works greater than these , because I am going my way to the Father."

A crowd to which he was preaching outdoors one day, when the church was too small to hold all who came to hear him, amidst thunder and lightning felt not one drop of water fall upon them, while all around them the rain poured down.  And men’s hearts turned to God:

St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231)

Matthew:

12:33 ' ''Either you people make the tree fine and its fruit fine or make the tree rotten and its fruit rotten; for by its fruit the tree is known.

12:34 Offspring of vipers, how can you speak good things, when you are wicked? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

12:35 The good man out of his good treasure sends out good things, whereas the wicked man out of his wicked treasure sends out wicked things.

12:36 I tell you that every unprofitable saying that men speak, they will render an account concerning it on Judgement Day;

12:37 for by your words you will be declared righteous, and by your words you will be condemned.''

12:38 Then as an answer to him some of the scribes and Pharisees said: ''Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.''

12:39 In reply he said to them: ''A wicked and adulterous generation keeps on seeking for a sign, but no sign will be given it seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet,

12:40 For just as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.

12:41 Men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it; because they repented at what Jonah preached, but, look! something more than Jonah is here.

12:42 The queen of the south will be raised up in the judgment with this generation and will condemn it; because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, but, look! something more than Solomon is here.'' '

From these passages a few things can plainly be seen.  Before they even asked for a sign Jesus ALREADY KNEW that this particular generation was evil and he told them so.  The generation wasn't evil because they asked Jesus to pull a rabbit out of his hat but they were evil regardless of whether they asked for the sign or not and he called them on it.  They were evil in the eyes of Jesus because of what happened way back in verse 24 when they accused Jesus of being in league with the Devil, NOT BECAUSE THEY ASKED HIM FOR A SIGN.  Jesus had just finished rebuking them and they still had the guts to demand a magic show (verse 12:39).
Even after all this Jesus proceeded to predict his own death and resurrection FOR A SIGN to these people.

You may find, after following these links, that 'heart knowledge' has begun to spring up inside of you.  You may also sense that it is at war with your 'head knowledge', and that this newfound 'heart knowledge' is becoming increasingly incompatible with what you believe.  IF that is the case, then perhaps you are ready to take this most important step of
Becoming a Christian
