Alternatives to 12-Step Recovery

A simple man overcomes alcoholism through the power of God - If God didn't work for you perhaps it is because you tried half-hearted measures?

He gradually lost everything and ended up in hospital due to drugs. For over a month he neither ate nor spoke nor functioned.  The only thing he desired was death.  For a couple of years he saw no possibility of ever having a normal life or being somebody again.  It was absolute darkness, he felt sick in every cell of his being.  His mother, who had kept in contact with him all the time, asked him to come home and sent him a one-way ticket.  She didn't sent him the money for it because she knew what he would do with it so she sent him the ticket.  His conversion is something anyone can strive for.

LifeRing Secular Recovery - Because people in recovery deserve a choice.

Once An Alcoholic - Now A Late Vocation

Overcomproblems.com - Help and protection from persistent (chronic) problems through prayer and the Brown Scapular.

Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart - Founded in 1898 (long before A.A. was started) and still going strong.

Practical Recovery Services - Practical Recovery Services offers an alternative to 12-step and to pre-set “programs” of addiction treatment.

Rational Recovery - RR was founded in 1986 by Jack and Lois Trimpey in response to the lack of choice in the field of addictions.  At the time, there was no choice other than the 12-Step, spiritual healing program of Alcoholics Anonymous.  Lack of choice in recovery styles is still a serious problem, but RR has become well-known as a viable and widely available alternative to addiction.

Recovery Free.com - Welcome to Recoveryfree.com Dr. Jim DeSena empowering alternatives to AA and 12-step treatment

Saint Jude Retreat House - The Saint Jude Retreat House is a Social-Educational Alternative to Conventional Drug Rehab Centers and Alcohol and Drug Treatment Programs

SOS - Secular Organizations for Sobriety, also known as Save Our Selves is dedicated to providing a path to sobriety, an alternative to THOSE PATH(S)??? depending upon supernatural or religious beliefs.  The influence of Alcoholics Anonymous shows vividly in this recovery program.  I wonder why they use the bible to add to their credibility when they claim to be non religious/spiritual?

SMART Recovery - SMART Recovery helps people recover from all types of addictive behaviours including alcoholism, drug abuse and substance abuse. SMART Recovery is an alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

Twelve Step Free Zone is a discussion list for those who have left the groups or are seriously questioning the 12-step doctrine.  It is also for those who have a loved one caught up in the step religion.  The focus of discussion is on sharing experience with and information on the step groups.  Perhaps our most important function is to provide the first place where many can dare be critical and not be accused by a "unanimous majority" of groupers of sufferingfrom one "defect of character" or another for doing so.

Although not the focus here, information on alternative organizations and methods of resolving drinking problems are available for the asking.

Women for Sobriety - If you think that this program is NOT religious then perhaps you had better take another look.  Avail yourself of some of their literature and see for yourself.  Religious teachings from the New Age Movement can be found throughout their literature.

You may find, after following these links, that 'heart knowledge' has begun to spring up inside of you.  You may also sense that it is at war with your 'head knowledge', and that this newfound 'heart knowledge' is becoming increasingly incompatible with what you believe.  IF that is the case, then perhaps you are ready to take this most important step of
Becoming a Christian.
