Biographical Notes:

Mark Nisenholt was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He studied art at the University of Manitoba’s School of Art, specializing in printmaking. He continued his studies at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating with his MFA degree he spent a year teaching printmaking at Mt. Allison University in New Brunswick. Subsequently he taught art as a sessional lecturer at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay. The following year,1980, he was hired on full-time as a professor at LU. Shortly thereafter he was appointed director of the division of fine arts, responsible for the delivery of art, music, drama, and dance programs. He was instrumental in establishing the department of Visual Arts as a viable and respected aspect of the university’s spectrum of programs.
Mark Nisenholt works as as artist in several media, painting, drawing, prints and mixed media as well as computer art. His work has been shown in Toronto, New York, Winnipeg, Duluth, and of course, Thunder Bay. He lives in Thunder Bay with his wife and son and continues to teach in the Department of Visual Arts at Lakehead University. He has been chair of the Visual Arts department since returning from sabbatical in the fall of 2005.
