Staffing
The Regional Multicultural Youth Council's (RMYC) does not have program funding for on-going operations. Staff at the Youth Centre are hired through project grants, which makes it very difficult to maintain the Youth Centre. We are, however, very grateful to our parent organization, the Multicultural Association of Northwestern Ontario (MANWO) for assisting us with staff, and volunteers to keep the Youth Centre open.
MANWO also helps us to supervise and train student placements, youths on community services and students on co-operative education who help us to run the Youth Centre, our programs and services.
MANWO as a registered not-for-profit organization has been able to get us licenses for our fundraising bingos, craft store and donations to help with the costs of running the Multicultural Youth Centre. MANWO "charitable" status enables us to apply for project grants from the government and funding agencies such as the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Aboriginal Healing Foundation to hire part-time staff.
The RMYC has been fortunate to get donations as well as secure occasional grants under the student experience programs and workskills development projects to hire youths to work at the Centre. The list of the training positions we have established and hope that they will eventually become full-time positions include:
