The Kaministiqua River
Once this stretch of river served as the harbour for the City of Fort William and was lined with Grain Elevators and Freight Warehouses. As the deeper water of the Intercity area and Port Arthur was developed and expanded commerce slowly began to abandon the river. It was expensive to maintain due to the high flow of sediments which led to frequent needs for dredging and growth was constricted due to the near location of many neighbourhoods and narrow river bank. Some industries still hang on the banks but there is a growing call for redevelopment of tourist and recreation facilities.
