Updates - Take a walk through the Soroptomist Friendship Garden...
History and
mystery
surround us completely in the city of Thunder Bay - It is evident
in everything around us from building names to the routes that streets
take to the turns in the sidewalks beneath our feet. This site
was created as an opportunity for people to discover a Thunder Bay
that they might have not known before.
It is also hoped
that it helps people to find a Thunder Bay that is both full of history
and vibrant life. It will be an opportunity to discover pieces of
the past that some people might have though lost forever. It will
also provide people with an opportunity to discover places in Thunder
Bay that they did not know existed.
This
website is not all about the past of Thunder Bay either. It also showcases
some of the vibrant new growth happening in Thunder Bay. As the city
redefines itself as more than a primary industry city this site will
help to show some of the unique views of that new growth.
This idea for this website is based on Forgotten-NY.com.
I would like to ackowledge Kevin Walsh for his great site which served
as an inspiration to examine the city around me for tangible history
instead of just reading about it in a book.
I would also like to acknowledge the various people who have contributed
in various ways to this website - Suzanne Dubois, Mary Lee Mehagan,
Bryn Miles, and David Smith. I also extend my thanks to all those
who have offered me encouragement to complete this project, even when
it seems most daunting - Jenn Kivisto, Hanna Laaksonen, Cheryl Danielson,
Kevin Walsh, Elinor Barr, Tania Saj, my Mother and Father, my Sisters,
and Suzanne Dubois.
Most of the information concerning the various street names in Thunder
Bay comes from a wonderful book by Diane Grant entitled The Street
Names of Thunder Bay and is available for purchase from the Thunder
Bay Historical Museum Society here.
Rather than cite all my other sources (literary or otherwise) as they
are used I would instead like to direct you to this page here.
