1990 VW Westfalia 2.0 litre I4 Conversion – Throttle Cable
On
the automatic transmission Westalia, you have a throttle cable from
pedal to transmission, and then a relay rod from transmission to
throttle body. This relay rod allows you to floor the pedal to
achieve full throttle and then push a little more to engage the kick
down switch on the tranny.
After converting, your relay rod will not be retrofitted. I replaced the pedal to tranny cable with a stock new cable, and also ordered a second throttle cable from a 90 jetta. I cut off the end of relay rod and fitted it as if stock. The 90 Jetta throttle cable is held in the hollow end of this relay rod by two set screws I tapped in. With this arrangement, flooring the pedal engages the kickdown ... there is no reserve in the pedal to engage kickdown after full throttle. The second black bracket was ordered from Peter at Tiico, but now having seen it, I would have just welded it up. The transmission is tapped already to allow fitting this bracket. |
