Thomas Apperley and Hannah HattonThomas Apperley (1807 to 1866) a mason and his wife Hannah (Hatton) Apperley (1814 to 1893) were both born in England, perhaps Gloucester. They went to the United States of America about 1835 where their first two children were born in New York State. They later came to Canada and Thomas purchased fifty acres of land near Vellore in Vaughan Township, York County, Canada West in 1842. Thomas sold the Vellore proprerty in 1856 and moved the family to Simcoe County, Canada West in the 1860s. Thomas and Hannah had seven children; John Clark, Mary Ann, Thomas, James, William, Francis Hatton, and Arthur McNeil. Thomas Apperley died October 1, 1866 and is buried in the cemetery of St. John's Church in Cookstown, Simcoe County, Ontario. Hannah Apperley died October 22, 1893 in Alliston, Simcoe County, Ontario. John Clark Apperley (born 1836 in New York State) married Elizabeth Mooney (born 1842) November 29, 1865 in Simcoe County. They had no children and he died October 17, 1866. Mary Ann Apperley (born 1842 in New York State) married William Filer May 6, 1862 in York County. William and Mary had two children. Mary was a piano teacher, and was living with her mother in Alliston, Simcoe County in 1891. Thomas Apperley (born January 23, 1846 in Vaughan Township, York County) a mason married Sarah White (born March 24, 1850 in King Township, York County) November 4, 1868 in Simcoe County. Thomas purchased a lot in the Village of Nicolston, Essa Township, Simcoe County February 1, 1873. Thomas and Sarah had seven children when they decided in 1881 to move west and claim a homestead near Whitewood, Assiniboia District, Northwest Territories. Five more children were born in Whitewood. Sarah died September 5, 1902 and Thomas died August 23, 1926. Thomas and Sarah are buried in the cemetery at Whitewood, Saskatchewan. James Apperley (born 1848 in Vaughan Township, York County) was disabled. He was living with his mother in Tecumseth Township, Simcoe County in 1871. William Apperley (born July 31, 1850 in Vaughan Township, York County) a painter married Rebecca White (born 1853) January 30, 1872 in Toronto, York County. Rebecca was a sister to Thomas Apperley's wife, Sarah White. Rebecca died April 29, 1875 in Simcoe County. William married Ann Catherine Flanagan (born February 17, 1856) December 20, 1876 in Nottawasaga, Simcoe County. William and Ann Catherine moved west in 1881 and claimed a homestead near Pilot Mound, Manitoba. William and Ann Catherine had seven children. William died November 12, 1929 and Ann Catherine died April 1, 1932.
Francis Hatton Apperley (born December 16, 1852 in Vaughan Township, York County) a farmer married Mary Elizabeth Bowerman (born January 2, 1855) March 28, 1877 in Alliston, Simcoe County. Frank and Mary raised six children on their farm near Cookstown in Simcoe County. Mary died in 1938 and Frank died in May 1940. Frank and Mary are buried in a cemetery near Cookstown, Ontario. Arthur McNeil Apperley (born January 8, 1856 in Vaughan Township, York County) a painter married Elizabeth Ewing (born 1859) May 24, 1882 in Shelburne, Dufferin County, Ontario. Arthur and Elizabeth had five children. Elizabeth died March 3, 1893 in Orangeville, Dufferin County. Arthur returned to Alliston, Simcoe County and later married Emily Teressa Smith (born December 5, 1873). Arthur and Emily had five children. Arthur died January 12, 1939 and Emily died November 26, 1941. |
