Walther PPK/S CO2 Pistol

By Todd Cooper

The Umarex Walther PPK/S CO2 pistol is a 15 shot semi-auto BB pistol with real blow back action. The metal slide on this model moves rearward with every pull of the single action trigger, which results in a realistic pistol type recoil.

The PPK/S has a frame constructed of blackened metal with black plastic grip panels. The barrel is a 3.5” smoothbore, designed for BB use only. As with many CO2 pistols, the 12 gram vessel is housed within the hollow grip body.

My sessions with the PPK/S consisted of a short velocity test and a number of offhand accuracy tests using the popular isosceles hold. This pistol was designed as a rapid fire plinker rather than a tack driving target pistol and for that reason I did not perform benchrest accuracy tests.

The PPK/S gives a large number of shots from a single powerlet but velocity is more stable when a short rest is taken after each 15 shot clip is emptied. The most consistent velocity was obtained with a slow type of shooting pace.

All testing was done at a room temperature of 68-70F, using the Ruko labelled lead BBs. This Ruko imported Gamo BB weighs 8.2 grain according to the data on the Gamo web site.

Group #4

1.7" - 10 shots

Group #5

3.2" - 10 shots

My typical 15 foot accuracy seems to be about 1.9" (when flyers are eliminated).

25 Foot Offhand Accuracy (slow fire)

Group #1

4.0" - 10 shots

9 of the 10 - 3.0"

Group #2

4.0" - 10 shots

8 of the 10 - 2.2"

Group #3

3.9" - 10 shots

9 of the 10 - 2.7"

Group #4

3.3" - 10 shots

My typical 25 foot accuracy seems to be about 2.8" (when flyers are eliminated).

15 Foot Offhand Accuracy (rapid fire)

Group #1

1.5" - 10 shots

Group #2

1.6" - 10 shots

Group #3

1.5" - 10 shots

Group #4

2.5" - 10 shots

9 of the 10 - 1.6"

My typical 15 foot rapid fire accuracy seems to be about 1.6".

For accurate rapid fire shooting, a fresh powerlet is needed. I tried a rapid fire group after 30 shots were fired and the 10 shot group measured 3.2" with the pellet holes forming a narrow vertical string. The first 20 shots from a fresh powerlet seem to be the best for consistent rapid shooting.

Is the Walther PPK a fun pistol to shoot? Oh yah! Peppering a paper target or styrofoam cup from 15-20 feet with rapid firing is a blast!
