It's our 10th year on the air! The volunteers at CJOA would like to thank you for your continued prayers and support, for without you, there would be no Christian radio here in Thunder Bay. CJOA is your radio station, and as a non profit charitable organization, donations are tax deductible. You can become a member of CJOA for a membership fee of $2 and a suggested donation of $70-this will give you voting rights at the annual meeting. November 19-20

Step Right Up! Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls… Be Prepared to be Amazed! The Thunder Bay Christian School annual Bazaar and Auction promises to be filled with the excitement of a Real Carnival. The Big Top is coming to the school on November 19 and 20. Doors open at 7:00pm on Thursday and 6:00pm on Friday. The auction with over 100 items and services will start at 8:00pm on the Friday night. Delicious Food, Exciting Games and Deals Galore for Everyone! Admission is Free! November 20th

On Friday November 20th, Teen Challenge Thunder Bay will be holding their 4th Annual Fundraising Banquet.  This year's banquet will be held at The Italian Cultural Centre at 7:00pm.  For more information on how to sponsor a table or attend the event, call 345-2873 or e-mail teenchallenge@tbaytel.net.

St. Stephen the Martyr Anglican Church will host a Christmas Tea on Friday, November 20 from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. at the Current River Rec Centre, 450 Dewe Ave. There will be a Silent Auction, Crafts, Bake Table, Nearly New Table, Books and Jewellery and a door prize. Tickets are $4.50 at the door, children 5 and under are free

November 21st

The Little Seedlings Cooperative Christian Playschool is hosting a Mothers Market on Saturday, Nov 21st between 2 and 4 p.m. at the West Arthur Community Centre, 1914 Arthur St. W.This is a yard sale for moms by moms consisting of infant & children’s clothing, toys, furniture, and equipment. There are still a few tables available for rent. If you'd like to rent a table, please call 766-8159.

2009 marks the 350th birthday for composer Henry Purcell. Join Consortium Aurora Borealis for a concert to mark this occasion on Saturday November 21st, 8 pm at St Paul's United Church, 349 Waverley St. This will be an evening of music for voices, trumpet strings and keyboard. Admission is by donation at the door, everyone is welcome. 

November 27th

On November 27, LUSU Multicultural Centre will be hosting the 3rd annual performance night and silent auction at the Lakehead University Study Coffeehouse  in support of World AIDS Day. This year funds raised will go towards the Stephen Lewis Foundation, as well as AIDS Thunder Bay. Featured will be Rose Cousins, winner of the  2008 East Coast Music Awards Female Recording of the Year, as well as, local talents Gaelin Brown and Marley Giunta. The concert and auction start at 8 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.  Advance tickets are available at the LUSU Multicultural Centre,  LUSU Office, the Study Coffeehouse, and Hull’s Family Bookstore. Men's Ministry 24/7 of Faith City Church invites all men on Saturday morning, November 28th at 10am for our next session of the teaching series "Winning at Work & Home" by Dr.Robert Lewis. Christ Lutheran Church is hosting their Christmas Tea & Bake Sale on Saturday, November 28th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $4.00 and are available at the church office or at the door. Plan to attend with a friend.

 Looking for new ways to dress up the holidays or to find the perfect gift for someone who has everything, than try our unique Christmas bazaar supporting local vendors. The sale will take place Saturday, November 28th from 7-10 pm at the Oliver Road Community Centre. Enjoy FREE Coffee, hors d’ouvres, and Desserts, as well as craft, book and bake tables. November 29th

Enjoy choral music for Advent presented by the Thunder Bay Community Choir, directed by Mary McGhee.  On Sunday, November 29th, 4 PM at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 207 S. December 2nd

Lakehead Choral Group presents “The Spirit of Christmas” on Wednesday, December 2nd  at 8:00 pm at St. Agnes Church, located at the corner of Mary and Brown St.  Special guests will be the Thunder Bay Youth Choir.  Tickets are $10 in advance ($12 at the door) and are available from Dominion Motors, Rollason Flowers, Hull’s Family Bookstores, Finnish Bookstore/Kitchen Nook and all Lakehead Choral Group members, or phone 577-8805 for more information.  Come out and catch the “Spirit of Christmas”. 

December 4th

Currently 1 in 2 deaths in NW Ontario are directly related to heart disease. Want to help make a difference? Come out for a great time in support of the planned cardiac catheterization lab at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. The Northern Ontario School of Medicine is hosting a Holiday Concert featuring local artists,  on Friday, December 4 at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Doors open at 18:30 pm, and the concert begins at 19:00. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, available at Calico’s Coffeehouse, Seattle Coffeehouse, and George’s Market. December 5th

St. Michael & All Angels Church, 675 Red River Road (corner of Rockwood St. and Red River Rd.) invites you to a Christmas Tea and Bazaar on Saturday, December 5th from  1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.  Tickets are $4.00. Crafts, Bake and Deli Tables, and Perogies will also be available for purchase.  

Consortium Aurora Borealis presents “Beauteous Brass”, a concert of brass quintets from the Renaissance to the present.The concert will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 8:00 p.m., at St. Paul ’s United Church ,349 Waverley Street . December 6th

The avy League Cadet Corps Thunder # 28 will host a Snowflake Tea on Sunday, December 6th from 12:30-3pm at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5, 229 Van Norman St. There will be crafts, raffles and a bake sale. Tickets are $3 each and are available from any NLCC cadet or officer. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The Salvation Army Booth Centre is a local men’s shelter and residence that is looking for any sporting equipment such as baseball gloves, balls, pool cues or any billiard accessories, board games of any type, and movies either VHS or DVD for activities for the men who reside there. All donations can be dropped off at Booth Centre at 545 Cumberland St. N., or if you need to arrange for a pick-up please call 345-7319.

The Breast Cancer Support Group meets the second Wednesday of every month at St. Michael's Church on Red River Road at 7:00 pm to provide information and support for women dealing with Breast Cancer.  For more information, contact bcsg@tbaytel.net or call 475-0025 and leave a message. 

The Little Seedlings Cooperative Playschool meets every Thursday morning, 9:30 - 11:15 a.m. in the basement of Fort William Baptist Church, 1800 Moodie St. East. This group is for children 18 months – 4 years of age. Grace Place is a street church, located at 235 Simpson Street. At Grace Place they offer a safe environment to come, sit, relax and visit in a 40 seat coffee shop.  They offer free clothing, free coffee, free homemade meals and a non-denominational church service to the homeless and less fortunate in the Simpson Street area. Volunteers are always needed, as are donations of used clothing, (no children’s clothing please), food and small household items. The location is wheelchair accessible, and their services are available to everyone in the area at no charge and all are welcome.  Grace Place is open Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, and Sundays at 2:00pm for church service and a time of worship. At Grace Place there is always someone willing to pray with you and to provide pastoral care.  Pastors Gary and Melody Macsemchuk and the Grace Place volunteers extend a warm invitation to all. The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority 2010 Explorer Card is now on sale! Beat the price increase and enjoy unlimited access to eight conservation areas. The cost is only $30. You can pick up your card at the LRCA office, that's at 130 Conservation Road, or call 344-5857 for more information.

The Salvation Army Unity Place Program for adults with a variety of disabilities is looking for volunteers to help with a drop-in social activity time.  The time commitment would be every second week for approximately 2 hours in the afternoon.  The day of the week is flexible.  LIVINGWELL Healing Rooms, located at 106 N. Cumberland St. Suite 106 is open every Monday and Wednesday afternoon, from 1:00 until 3:00. Prayer is offered at no charge for any physical, emotional or spiritual need you might have. Call  345 1441 for more information. Healing Rooms is an interdenominational Christian ministry and a member of the International Association of Healing Rooms.

Would you like help with your reading and writing skills? Do you need to improve your math for the workplace? The Thunder Bay Literacy Group can help! Learn what you need at your own pace. Griefshare is a support group for grieving family or friends. The group meets Tuesday nights at 7 PM at Evangel Church, 1260 Balmoral Street. There is no cost to join; anyone is welcome. For more information, please call 345-3503.

R.I.S.K. is a self help/support group for women who are or have been in abusive relationships. For more information and meeting times, please call Diana at the Catholic Family development Centre at 343-4551. The group meets weekly; there is no charge to attend.

H.O.P.E. is a self help group for parents in conflict with their teens. The group- meets at the Catholic Family Development Centre, 380 Dufferin St. For more information, please call Madeline at 345-7323.

Lakehead Association for Community Living is looking for volunteers to assist with various activities relating to enhancing the lives of people with developmental abilities. If you're interested in helping out, please call  345-2551, extension 31 or  345-2551 Ext 30.

The Compassionate Friends of Canada, Thunder Bay Chapter, is a non-profit group of parents offering mutual support, friendship and hope for all parents who have experienced the death of a child of any age from any cause. Do you have any spare time? Could you find 2 or 3 hours a month to volunteer at The Salvation Army? The Booth Centre Hostel on Cumberland St. needs volunteers in a variety of positions: preparing, serving and cleaning-up the evening snack, befriending the residents, "hanging out" and playing games (board games, snooker, etc.) with them, assisting with the grounds maintenance and the list goes on. The Salvation Army’s local Thrift Stores are in need of your gently used items for sale at our two Thunder Bay locations. We are experiencing shortages in all areas, including clothing, furniture and household items. Thrift Stores rely on the generosity of the community to donate their used items, which are then sold at affordable prices. Proceeds from Thrift Stores fund vital Salvation Army programs and services. Donations will be gratefully accepted at both of our convenient locations, 870 Red River Road and Memorial Avenue. We also offer free pick up.
