TERMINAL BUZZ: 1 May 2012 - 7:30 A.M. So it's finally time to announce the tour (or lack, thereof) and put up pre-orders for the new record. The theme for May is "nothing west of Manitoba". But that's ok. So our mini-tour will be bringing us back northward and into Manitoba. We'll be laying down a 45 minute set packed with classics and new tracks. So please come out and see us, it'll be fun! Speaking of new tracks, I've just gotten word from the pressing plant that "Scream The First Few Bars" will be shipping this week. Finally. So what that means is I can now offer pre-orders for our little spinning circles. ![]() We have two packages up for grabs. Package 1: - "Scream The First Few Bars" 7" e.p. (limited to 200 numbered, coloured vinyl w/ hand-screened cover) - Digital Download - 6 pack of buttons This package is $10.00, postage paid within North America. Package 2: - "Scream The First Few Bars" 7" e.p. (limited to 200 numbered, coloured vinyl w/ hand-screened cover) - Digital Download - 6 pack of buttons - Tour t-shirt This package is $20.00, postage paid within North America. Please use the text box to indicate following options. Shirt size (s - xxl), cover colour (red, yellow, neon pink, or glow in the dark). Pre-orders will start shipping by May 4th, and the pre-order offers will be discontinued just before we hit the road (so, last shipping day will be May 14th). As well, this is your only chance to have a choice with what colour cover you get. So if all of the pink and glow covers sell out, don't cry to me. So fire up your paypal, and get er done. For all of you folks more inclined towards the digital forms, yes, we will soon be releasing a cd with all of our vinyl output (with a limited live dvd). Bad news is, I have no clue when it's happening. I'd like to say we'll have them for tour, but I'd also like to say I'm a steamboat captain. As well, all of our out of print back catalogue is now available on bandcamp on a "pay what you'd like" honour system. You can once again have "Salvation", but the price is up to you. Anyhow, more updates once I know more things. .......and now for a great video of us live at The Kettle Black's house: 1 Mar 2012 - 11:01 P.M. Yes, yes. I know it's been 10 months since you were last updated. Aside from playing The Devil's Cellar on New Year's Eve & recording our new 7" "Scream the first few bars" in January, there's been nothing to report. Our career is mottled with large periods of inactivity. It gives me time to write, so fuck you. March 17th will see us gracing the stage of Studio BLR one last time before Lynne closes forever. Our set is super fast/short these days, so if you show up late (or blink), you'll miss us. So, this new record we are waiting for...... "Scream The First Few Bars" was recorded this past January in our basement. It marks a bit of a turn for us, as it's our first release to not rely on sequencers. The only drum loops are at the beginning & end of "Suffragette", & briefly in "Kill, Kill!". Drums are all driven by Moseley's disco/punk blunt force trauma. ALL synths this time around are analog (courtesy of Greg Cox's Prophet 10 that dwarfs Amy & my lobotomised Arp Axxe). The sound is thicker, tighter & very fierce. Guitars were recorded as they should be : Screaming at top volume from a Marshall. Hell, there's even a bass in there on one song. We've received the test pressings, and if all goes well, we will have records & be on the road across Canada in May. Once again, the first pressing will be on a random colour of vinyl (this time, between Red & Yellow) & numbered. This time, though, I've been silk-screening covers (red, yellow, pink & glow). They look swell. Anyhow, we'll have previews, pre-orders & new shirts soon. Stay tuned & come see us on March 17th! 28 Apr 2011 - 6:32 A.M. So the east coast went pretty awesome. Maritime hospitality is one of the most awesome things in the world. Your Wal-Mart parking lots aren't much different from ours, though. One thing that surprised me was all of the insane cheap gear deals in your pawn shops. Too bad I spent all my money on bondage pants & roto-toms. I figured playing 2 sets a night (as well as doing load) on 4 hours of sleep a night would kill me, but I'm still here. Next, we'll be heading out west with Promonium, so please come out and see us! Check the tour dates above! Also on the "it's not news, it's A.R." front, we got a review in exclaim: "Adaptive Reaction come bearing 1,001 different sounds on their second seven-inch release, Terminal Hate. The three-piece combine elements of classic street punk with progressive electronic beats, replacing any and all guitar loops and breakdowns with overused synth sounds that can grate. Get past it and guitarist/vocalist Myke Adaptiv's deep, throaty voice has enough range to drive the EP forward. First track "Louder than Tension" begins with a repeating synth hook pulsing over heavily distorted guitar. In contrast, "Heads Will Roll" (a new recording of an older song) begins with driving bass synth beats coupled with rhythmic drumming, with the synth overpowering the guitar. Elements of Terminal Hate are reminiscent of classic punk influences (everyone from Circle Jerks to the Dead Kennedys), yet Adaptive Reaction project an amalgam of electronic synth sounds that make them similar to the likes of Skinny Puppy or hardcore electro-band Heavy Heavy Low Low. Combining three-chord punk with synth is a unique take on an ever-changing genre, and for that are to be commended." Uhhhh huh huh huh huh. I was called "deep-throaty". Decent review, yes? Anyhow, you can get all the Terminal Hate you want by scrolling down and clicking away your cash to us!! We also have a new shirt and re-prints of faithful oldies!! Dig it! See you on the road! 20 Mar 2011 - 7:12 A.M. Just in case you haven't read the above bit, the east coast tour is set in stone for the most part. I'll just be glad to get the fuck back on the road. We played an awesome last-minute show at Studio BLR in Toronto on the 18th. Lots of energy, lots of fun. An audience that got it. That doesn't happen often enough. We got some great video of this (2 camera angles!), and we'll probably be posting some of it to the Youtubes sometime soon. Speaking of the Youtubes, if you HAVE NOT seen it, a glimpse into our touring lives is offered by Moseley's doco of the "West Coast Anarchy" tour. You can watch the whole thing for free here. This is before we retired my laptop as the main timekeeper, and brought Moseley on to pound the drums. It's a good representation of the time. Now I will sigh for the AC/DC hat I am wearing through all of this footage, but lost on the tour after this. Flipping through the vast tubes of the intarnet, I found another review for "Terminal Hate". This from Razorcake: Fairly solid synth punk in the vein of Nervous Gender. Not grabbing me like some of their contemporaries—Nervous Patterns for example—but I am digging the female backing vocals and energy. One thing’s for certain: I doubt anyone can question Adaptive Reaction’s commitment. This 45 came in a hand-folded sleeve; the record is on colored vinyl and is hand numbered. Fuckin’ awesome. –Ryan Leach I'm flattered by the Nervous Gender comparison. Thank you plenty, Mr. Leach. Anybody who wants in on this little piece of "Fuckin' Awesome" can scroll down a bit and cough up $8. It'll come to your house and make your ears bleed, gratis. Anyhow, many records sent out........2 reviews in return. Gotta love it. The music business is pretty much one of the only ones I can think of that will drag you out into the street, run you over with a car, and then tell you to get back to your shitty day job. That's cool, I'll raise you all a Hemmingway (which means I'll still keep punching). There's some big ideas in the works for this year. A picture speaks louder than words, see you on the road.
23 Feb 2011 - 6:07 A.M. Presently we are working on getting ready for the upcoming tours with both "Orphan Grinder" (eastward as far as Charlottetown) & "Promonium Jesters" (westward as far as somewhere in BC). Several songs have been removed from the set, replaced with 4 new tracks (all short, fast, sweet, and to the point) that will be recorded soon and released eventually. "Terminal Hate" is still taking up room in our house, so pick one up. Here's what Brad from "Musick Defends Itself" had to say about it: "The first offering from the current Adaptive Reaction lineup is definitely their most live-sounding so far. This isn’t “cyberpunk,” this is the flesh and blood real deal who know how to savour guitar feedback as much as they love their synths. The new song “Louder Than Tension” kicks off the record with a rowdy guitar riff reminding me of something from Revolting Cocks’ Beers, Steers & Queers remixes, although if you asked a guy with a lot of punk records he’d probably find a different and better analogy. The brand new recording of their old song “Heads Will Roll” highlights how the use of real drums allows for a stripped-down beat and gives the electronics room to experiment with other functions; the synth sounds here perhaps more suggestive of space rock than EBM. It’s cool to see this come out on the 7” EP format, as there’s a strong crossover potential in these four songs to also appeal to the non-rivet punks who tend to collect those. Limited to 205 (5 black, 100 blue, 100 red)." - Musick Defends Itself #2 Right below, you can order your life away. $8.00 is a small price to pay to support original new music (while it'd be nice to give everything away for free, good intentions can't buy guitar strings.). If you don't trust US with your money, and you live in the GTA, you could go by KOPS Records, Rotate This!, or Sonic Boom Records and pick one up for yourself. Unfortunately, they won't slip free things in the package like we do. We're still too scary for radio, television, and most magazines. Fine by us. We don't want old hipsters at our party, anyhow. |
