Printed Indexes to Marriages in Ontario, 1869-1872. The following information on these printed indexes is provided by: Fawne Stratford-Devai, Jay Nellis and Jay Smith. They were kind enough to let subscribers to the Canadian-Roots mailing list know about these resources.
One of the problems when searching for marriages in Ontario Civil registration records from 1869-1873 is that there is no central index available. I recently found a set of indexes (6 books altogether) compiled by Renie A. Rumpel that index this difficult time period. Within her index Renie includes the following information : Name Spouse Date Location Volume Page Gray, Annie Berringer 07-Seo-1869 Perth C. Volume 2 page 233 Berringer, William Gray 07-Sep-1869 Perth C. Volume 2 page 233 Once you have this information you can then look up what reel Volume 2 is on microfilm from the archives of Ontario (MS 932 reel 1) or the LDS microfilm number 1862473. These books essentially index all the marriages from 1869-1873 that there are no indexes for at the archives of Ontario. I have also borrowed another index created by Renie Rumpel titled "Roman Catholic Marriage Registers in Ontario, Canada 1828-1870. Now I do not know how complete this last index is but they are based on a number of different catholic parish and mission registers in the Archives of Ontario. They included the following items: Toronto: St. Paul's 1833-1857, Adjala Mission (Simcoe, York Counties) 1833-1857, St. Margaret Mission 1833-1857 (Simcoe, York Counties) St. Gregory Mission 1844-1856 (Ontario County), Newmarket Mission 1850-1870 (Simcoe, York Counties), Townships above Toronto (York County) 1830-1833, St. Catharines 1851-1852 (Lincoln County), Port Colbourne 1860-1870 (Welland County), Falls View 1858-1869 (Welland County), Niagara on the Lake 1828-1857 (Lincoln County), Dixie Parish 1856-1857 (Peel County), Gore Mission 1834-1869 (Peel County). As you can see from the Catholic index list of what is included that it does NOT cover a great deal of the province but if you have people in these areas during the time periods noted then I would be happy to do a look up in this index also.
