Logistical Support in Times of Crisis

Funeral Planning

Following the death of a loved one, there are many decisions that need to be made in a short period of time. We at Bethlehem Christian Reformed Church would like to be a support to you and your family. This brochure is intended to provide information to help in planning the funeral.

When a death occurs, the first person to contact is the pastor or your pastoral elder. The pastoral elder will then contact all other elders and the clerk. They will notify the entire Bethlehem family, so that support during this difficult time can be given.

For any questions, concerns or assistance, please contact the pastor or your elder.

To help in making arrangements, please refer below for persons to contact.

The following are ideas and guidelines for planning the funeral.

WORSHIP SERVICE
The pastor will help the family plan the order of worship.

BULLETINS
It is the family’s responsibility to get the information typeset and copied onto bulletin covers. Covers can be purchased at Hull’s Book Store. For assistance, call the Administrative Assistant.

CUSTODIAN
If chairs need to be re-arranged or extra cleaning is needed, the family contacts the custodian, who is not a member of Bethlehem. A fee is charged for this service.

MUSICIANS
The family arranges for the organist or pianist, unless they request the pastor to do so. Names are listed on the back..

SOUND SYSTEM
The family requests someone to run the sound system, unless they ask the pastor to take care of this.

Following the Service:

If a luncheon or refreshments are needed at the church following the funeral service, this must be planned by the family. There are several ways to proceed:

CATERING
1) If the family chooses to organize the luncheon and requires help, one of the volunteers listed below should be contacted. They will purchase food as requested. They will also set up tables when asked, and do the cleaning up.

2) The Thunder Bay Christian School Booster Club is available to help with luncheons. They need as much notice as possible. A set payment for servers is involved. The family will be responsible to set up tables and clean up. Contact Thunder Bay Christian School.

3) The funeral home may also have suggestions for catering, or may have their own catering service. The family will be responsible to set up tables and do the cleaning up, unless they request help to do this. See the list of volunteers.
