Marriage Registrations in Ontario began on July 1, 1869. However, the province-wide nominal index does not actually begin for most counties or districts until 1874. Without this finding aid, the marriages for the period of 1869 to 1873 are often overlooked or difficult to track down, especially for researchers located outside of Ontario. The compiled registrations listed below make these marriage records more readily accessible to researchers everywhere. The information, where provided, includes the names of bride & groom, ages, profession (of groom), parents, location & date of marriage, and names of witnesses.

The early censuses of Upper Canada are often the best or only source giving evidence of the gender, number and relative ages of family members of the early generations of pioneers. The census lists the Heads of Families by name, as well as the number of males and females over/under the age of 16 years.
